OEM Clutch
Does anyone know who makes the original (OEM) clutch, either currently or past.
I have heard that the clutch is universal for all 4cyl. models from 1990-2002 as well.
Comments please....

I couldn't call local so I called California Parts Department:
"Honda does not make the clutches, nor are we told who makes them. Our suppliers make them to Honda specs, Honda is just a company that puts pieces together to form a car."
This is what I figured, but there must be a way to find out who supplies these 'Spec' clutches to Honda...after all there surely wouldn't want to keep that a secret.

Yeah I found that, but I see no reason to buy inflated products just because Honda sells it....I'd be paying for the middle man.
Honda Service Department already stated they would install parts off the street, which is still outrageous at over $400 in labor.
I have put transmissions, clutches, etc. in my own Hondas in the past. But, sometimes the opportunity cost of having someone else do it is better....but not at $400.
I beleive I will have my mechanic do it instead (Retired Infiniti Master Mechanic), after all its just a clutch...not an engine transplant.
...Now back to the topic at hand:
I have been told that Honda does not make their own clutches just a few minutes ago by the Parts Manager. So, who can confirm supplies clutches?

You arent going to do any harm by installing an aftermarket clutch. Just as long as it's not a cheap or no name clutch.
But that parts manager is kinda incorrect. He made it sound like when he orders a clutch through honda it shows up in an aftermarket box. This is not the case. It very well may be an aftermarket company that makes the clutch (as well as many other honda parts). But he has no way of telling that this is the case.

Right, its in a Honda box, guaranteed, hoo-hah.
But, we all know its not Honda in that box...more of an approved provider.
Thanks, based on my reasearch, Daiken has been engulfed by Exedy and both supply the majority of OEM parts to manufacturers. Their replacements aren't OEM becasue they aren't supplied directly by Honda. Even though the clutch's only difference is the box.
Its like Pirelli is the OEM for many new BMWs, Infinitis, etc. But the dealers aren't the only place to get those tires, hence an OE replacement by the direct manufacturer.

Well you missed my point but ok.
The clutch isn't exactally the same (it's close if not better). But no need to nitpick it.
I could get into hondas tires too but i'm not going there in this thread. lol
good luck on getting it replaced!

I understand you are a Honda Technician and you will be forever biased for that...but that isn't necessarily a bad thing for you...knowledge is great.
But, I was at my Honda dealership today and asked where the Volvo dealership was, mind you a very small city, and low-and-behold....no one knew.
Its great to stick by your guns, but what I came on to find out through discussion was who gives Honda the clutches that you put in your Honda box.
Just because it has Honda's name and its in their box, doesn't necessarily mean they made it...but they sure can put together a hell of a car with the best pieces!!

BTW, I seriously doubt Honda has a patent on the 'Specs' that a supplier made for them...that just screams lawsuit.
Again, I doubt the supplier would let Honda limit them reproducing and selling a product with the same 'Specs', but they could prevent them from marketing them as Honda parts.

diaken (exedy) makes them
stamped on the clutch disc and pressure plate
i replaced one with an exedy "oem replacement" that i got for $99, exedy box, same stampings and #'s as orginal clutch pulled from motor on both clutches.
