Tranny issues: grinds in 2nd-undr normal conditions-WTF
Im posting this for a buddy a work. he owns a 04 EP3 Civic Si. His tranny grinds while shifting into 2nd. Based on him its been that way since he rolled if off the lot
in '04 (he just thought that he had to get used to the shifter position- he's always driven and owned 5 speeds). Well it has gone from bad to worse...he took it to Honda and they claimed it was him-he went for a drive with the service mgr. The mgr could'nt get it to grind-so my buddy took a turn-no problem-then *bam* grinding. Honda thinks driver error-I'm leaning toward bad synchros. Car has 13.400 miles- what are your thoughts.
Thanks

Try going to a different dealership. Many are more lenient than the one you are describing as they get compensated by Honda for warranty work. But make sure the grind is prevalant when you do go to the other dealership.
The car is still under warranty, get it replaced asap.

It might be a little bit of the driver but there also is a problem with those trannies. Did the Honda guy drive it around town or in the parking lot? If in the parking lot have other people you know and trust drive it around town and see how it responds to them. Depending on what happens you might want to take it to a different dealership like said earlier. And if they do finally say it's synchros make sure you trust the techs at the dealership. It might be bad now but if they start to tear apart a tranny and replace parts that crutial things can go to hell really quick if they aren't the best in the world, and I mean ASE Honda certified damn good or have a really nice resume.
