98+ JDM ITR 4.7 FD tranny VS USDM ITR 4.4 FD tranny
for the people who own that tranny, please chime in and describe how it feels. does the 4.7FD tranny make RPMs jump faster then the 4.4 USDM ones?
i think this has been covered in the ITR forum.
ask the itr guys, since most of them have the usdm 4.4 tranny and a lot of them have swapped to a 4.7 FD already

But that's a different scenario, the op is talking about a jdm 98+ itr tranny, wtih the gsr 4th and 5th gears.
A usdm itr tranny or a 96-97 spec jdm itr tranny with a 4.7 fd swapped in will be the best of both worlds.
If looking for comparison, in the best motoring dvd on the history of the type-r, they did a test between a 96-97 spec and a 98 spec, and the the 98 pulled through the first few gears, but the 96-07 caught up and they had the exact same quarter mile time.

In terms of "ultimate performance" from a very OEM perspective....yes this would be the hot ticket.
User/Moderator "Reid" has a 98spec in Japan at the moment and has made a similar comment about how the 3rd to 4th gear spacing is not very good and causes the car to fall a bit on its face.

you're right, but for the most part gears 1-3 are what people are gonna notice more..especially daily driving/road racing..and the itr guys could tell your their opinion firsthand.
to answer this guys question, the rpm's won't jump faster, but accelleration will benefit, if that's what he's asking lol

wow u shaved off alot from going 4.4 to 4.7 eh... so the JDM ITR tranny with the 4.7 FD isn't all that great because of short 3rd then fall off on 4th?

I never really felt the fall off cause i was reving it out to 9200-9500 at the track so my shifts still stayed within the power band. id finish the 1/4 at about 7000 RPMs in 4th
But one factor was that i was on 195/50/14's so my final drive went up to about 4.892 cause of the tire size

I put a 4.78 FD in my B16 tranny with ITR sized ATS LSD. It was a noticable difference in acceleration, on the road course I'm changing gears much more often though. I say its nice to have for a track car, if you don't mind shifting to 5th gear on most straights.
i like the usdm type r trans with jdm 4.7 fd .... ull really love the way the gears mesh 1st -5th and access to power is there in 4th and 5th... but its alot of shifting for a daily driver... in my opinion the tighter 4 and 5 gear in the usdm trans along with the 4.7 fd is the best gearing ... anything more is strictly overkill... but sometimes u gotta kill it.... so do u

I have an 97 JDM ITR tranny. Really I'm not even sure what FD I have. I do know it makes a great all motor tranny. If you love to shift and enjoy doing 4k on the tack going 60mph then its for you.

well you should have seen some better times or Raise in trap.

I drove my friends car going from a 4.4 to a 4.7 and the difference really is night and day. Accelaration is super snappy, 2nd gear feels like 1st and 3rd gear the car pulls very hard. Only downside is that you cant cruise on the freeway because the RPMS are so high at 80MPH. I would suggest going with a gsr or ls 5th gear if you put in a 4.78 FD into your tranny.

your absolutely right i should have but i didnt. all the gear changes came faster and thats about it. you have to remember its going to make a hell of alot more of a difference on a street car VS a car that at the time was running low 12s on a 1.8L.

I have the 4.7fd and LSD on my GSR tranny and the car accelerated faster now than when I had a B16 tranny. At 80 mph, my rpm is at 4700-4800 with the GSR, and with the b16 it was at 4000. 4.7

i thought the b16 tranny at 80 mph you'll be at 4500 rpm?
