Default need ideas, extra d16z6

well my bro got into an accident a while back, he had a del sol si (pretty sure it was an si since it has a d16z6 in it) well im turning 17 this year and my dad says hes gonna get me a car.

so i went car shoppin online, at first i thought bout getting a h23 prelude, and swap the head for a h22. but its so rare to find a good deal nowadays and it would be costy to work on it, especially at my age. so i started looking into the d series in civics.

so my question is if i get a civic (i was thinking like a ek d16y8) would it be good to swap the z6 head with the y8 head since the y8 has slightly more torque? or should i just swap out both of the motors entirely? and what parts would i also need to swap if i wanted to use both the motors?

also the thing about my brother's z6 is that when he got into the accident, the whole front end was pushed in like half a foot, so the frame is bent in and the motor is all crooked. is there any risk of using a motor thats been in an accident? like the internals weakening?

when i actually get everything swapped, i wanna most likely turbocharge it so what kinda turbo do u guys suggest i get? plus i wanna change out the internals, i dont wanna be like all those ppl out there that just get an exhaust and intake and call themselves badass, but im not exactly familiar with engine internals, like compression and all that. and yes, this is gonna be a daily car, so i dont want a full race car, i just want something to play with and whoop *** on the streets.

this might be alot of to ask for, but any advice and help would be great, and yes i alrdy searched, the most i got outta the forums is that y8 oil pumps suck and the y8 transmission uses steel forks.

why not just get a shell? I't be a lot easier and that way you wouldn't still have an extr motor on your hands taking up space. IMO go with like a home made DSM kit. Using good manifold and either a t14b or the t 25 should be great for that motor. Just make sure you use quality parts and any parts you get used have a pro inspect them before using them. Back when I was still thinking about going turbo(decided on going NA instead) I had a good thread going about what shops to go to or avoid for parts....I'll dig it up and post it up here.

yeah i never thought about getting a shell, how much do swaps like that tend to cost? and if i swap it into a hatch or sumthing, what else will i need to get and/or convert? im not sure i can use all the parts from the z6 cause everything got smushed in pretty bad, the radiator and everything around that is all bent and cracked. thanks for the thread link tho

Well I honestly couldn't tell you what all exactly you'd need to buy to turn a shell into a runnin car, but I do know that a shell with a full interior can be had as cheap as 1-3000 (depending on the condition everything is in). and if you get an eg shell(92-95) or an OBD 1 sol shell it would be direct bolt in. The only thing involving the motor that I wouldn't reuse are the mounts, radiator & header(If the pipes are crushed, if not it too is reusable). Everything else should work properly without too much problem.

well like anybody will tell ya, the biggest part of a built up engine like u plan on doing (high turbo, etc.) is a strong foundation, get those internals don first, then u can shoot more boost at it, both motors are fine, they don't have power worth of **** but for everyday drivers I guess they get the job done (point a to point b deal...), and I would use the Z6 head b/c even though the Y8 head has slightly better torque, the Z6 has slightly better flow :-\

if u buy a car that originally had a D16Z6 in it already like u plan on doing, there should be next to no work swapping the engin for a D16Y8, same mounts and ****....although u'd prolly want to get a ODB-2 - ODB-1 converter b/c the D16Z6 is ODB1 and the D16Y8 is ODB2 (I'm pretty sure), other than that diff u should be alright

if you get a ek with they8 in it just play with that. sell the z6 and use taht money towards your ek. or you could just get a 3g with anymotor in it, and swap it out for the z6. there is alot of options. is mommy and daddy buying the car fully for you?

honestly if you can ask tehm to give you the 5grand, go out and get a ej1 for around 3500 and then you have about 1000 left after taxes and all that ****. then you can A) sell teh other z6 and add taht money to your 1000, then build a turbo kit for your car. B) do a bunch of bolt ons C) build the extra motor you have with the 1000 bucks you have left over.
