mig welding turbo manifold
yeah looks. people commonly associate good looks with good welds... although that is not always true at all!!
you can mig up a manifold no problem and it will last if you welded correctly.
Im guessing no one really posts their mig manifolds cause msot people on here that post their tig manifolds have them up for sale. and people who mig know that miged manifolds wont sell cause people dont understand that looks doesnt mean quality.
but ya short answer to your question.
People do mig their manifolds they just dont show them often on hondatech. and it is mainly because of looks.
(tiged manifolds look like art sometimes)

**** you could arc weld(stick weld) a manifold together...... doesnt matter how you do it as long as you know how to weld.
but tig will always have a greater potential to LOOK better , though some migs look almost as good as some tigs..... but hopefully lots of people read this thread so they know better.

well i dont know too much about welding yet, but i'd assume that in order to get less burn-through and less chance of contaminating the weld for a theoreticly stonger weld, Mig > arc

weld it the way you want man, it's not the type of weld you do, it's the way you do it...
a MIG or STICK weld can be just as strong as a TIG weld, although, if done in right the TIG weld's is the strongest of all, but a lot of skill, knowing and practice is needed before a TIGGED manifold is done right.. you need to backpurge them... clean two to three time with acetone prior to weld, contamination is hard to avoid but feseable..
same apply to a MIGGED manifold... you are supposed to backpurge them... to clean and all the usual, it will be very strong if done right...
I've seen flux cored MIG welded manifold hold for a very extended period of time.
best advice is to take your time. have it fit right then clean, brush, clean and re-clean...
then weld, if you can back purge it, then.. do it.
hope this help.
P.S. I TIG all my manifold, I own only a TIG, so I TIG everything from gas cable bracket to traction bar setup...

I do tig'n for a living and I gotta say, the metal doesnt fatigue nearly as bad as arc or mig. Plus you can control undercutting and penatration like exactly how you want it. You will get less stress cracks using tig than any other save laser.

i mig welded my 1.5 setup a few years ago, and worked great for the time i used it, and the current buyer as well.
my downpipe didnt' come out as pretty as i wanted.. with the internal wastegate and all, but the manfifold still worked.
and i did my own log manifold, purely so i could retain A/C

NICE looks MIG welds. What machine was this done on?

Its statements like this why 90% of people on H-T thinks that if a manifold is MIG welded that its shitty. Yeah all that stuff would be true if the person using the welder knows how to TIG weld properly... too bad the majority of people usually do not.
For a DIY'er a mig welder is one of the best tools to own, no matter what a bunch of douchebags playing the welding fashion show on the internet say.

Well said, the only bad thing about mig is the cold starts. But if you know how to use a mig welder, the welds can be plenty strong.
Now a days people care about a good looking weld, rather then the pentration of a weld because 98% of the people just base the welds on looks alone.

on a related note, i plan to mig a manifold for a little dseries i have. its just a different technique for accomplishing the same task... if done properly, both methods should be equally reliable.
my flux welds look pretty good now and i'd consider doing it that way but i expect them to be even better with gas so i plan to wait until i upgrade before making it
