Default maxrev manifold Version 2.0 (prototype pics) & differences between tubing ...

Here is the first pic. This shows the difference between SS tubing (16 gauge) and the forged stainless tubing that we (Maxrev) use on our manifolds. The 16 guage tubing has a wall thickness of 37.5 thousandths (0.0375") and the 8 gauge tubing has a wall thickness of 168 thousandths (0.168").

the second picture is the picture of the prototype semi-equal length manifold. I didnt get a chance to finish it tonite, but i should be able to finish it wednesday. Use your imagination to fill in the last runner. The wastegate will intercept the collector in the front. More pictures to come soon. This manifold will not allow you to retain AC.

nice manifold!

let me guess...the forged stainless tends to hold up better than the .0375" stuff?

Can you post a pick of the collector chamber? I'm hoping you will put a divider plate to block the gases from cyl 1 and 4 from each other. This looks like the "Turboimports" manifold.. http://www.a1jdmengines.com/home.htm

the collector pics will be posted when its all finished. Its a pretty functional collector. The tubes from cyl 1 and 4 are both firing downwards, even tho that pic doesnt show it too well. Ill get more pics up shortly.

will this manifold be prone to cracking like other tubular manifolds or do you think it should be as reliable as a log style? thanks

Yep...gotta have A/C here too. It's a must-have.

Ever been to STL in the summer? A/C

I'd be happy to test that mani for you. I have the older log style mani for the B series. I'm in AZ also. Later Allen

Geoff,

Looks good as usual, I sent you an email about the kit and a couple of Qs get back to me when you can.

how are you liking your 'old' style log manifold?

So what are these tubular stainless steel manifolds going to run in price?

falconGSR, I have yet to really try out the manifold. My car starts it just won't idle or hold any type of rpm. So I really haven't had a chance to see what it can do in my car. My friend Victor/B18-Bomber used the same manifold on his GSR and recomended it to me. He made good power with it and for the price I paid it was a no brainer.

ttt so will this be as reliable as a log style or will it be prone to crack eventually?

thanks

It will be *almost* as strong as a log style manifold. The only strength difference is becuase the turbo hang out farther (more leverage to crack welds) A log style is inherently strong as it is one tube, and a tube is the strongest shape to both torsional stresses and strains. The fact that we use the 8 gauge forged material rather than tubing should make it live much longer than most competitors.

I once had a conversation with a manifold builder who said "Build it out of whatever you want, it will eventually crack; There is no miracle metal... well none that anyone can afford"

As far as i know, this is the strongest material utilized in a manifold for a reasoanbly priced manifold (an inconel manifold would probably run about 2500). This Stainless steel is very difficult to work with and cut, but its durability more than makes up for it. A customer with a heavily abused '00 Si (notorious for bad motor mounts) had completely torn up motor mounts. He had a maxrev kit on the car and actually ended up cracking the turbo housing before cracking the manifold. While this is not at all a good thing, it made me happy.

To be quite honest im not sure how much of a performance difference the longer runners and downward pointing collector will make. This will be on the dyno in about 4 weeks, so ill find out, and report the findings (ive wondered for a long time if longer runners make power...) We have seen some cars put out very good numbers with the log style -- similar to ones put out by more exotic manifolds.

Are you going to produce a 3" DP to go along with this manifold?

No price/release date yet, and the downpipes will only be 3".
