Default rsx-s question

I plan on getting a new car sometime this fall and i really really really want andrsx-s or if i cant find one then a normal rsx...my question is, for those of you who own one do you have any majors problems/dislikes about the car and is it really worth to try to find a type s over a normal rsx? thanks

Well the Type-S has a better engine of course. Some of them have 2nd gear grinds and my interior rattles in cold weather but otherwise I am very pleased with my Type-S

It depends on what you plan to do with the car, but I have had one for about a year and a half now and haven't noticed any rattles and my tranny is great, but you have to watch out when the thing is cold. Other than that I love it.

My tranny has been pissing me off lately. It doesn't go in smoothly in the gears, I almost have to force it in. Otherwise, the car is pretty good. Few rattles here and there but most cars rattle on rough roads.

02-04 have an issue with the transmission where 2nd (the 2002) and 3rd (2003-4) tend to grind. There is a bulliten to fix this, has something to do with the 5th and 6th ... I dunno, but its fixable if the service tech can verify the problem.

There is also something about drivebelts making whining noises after some time. Also a fix from the factory.

Type-S gives you more power better handeling. There really isn't a reason NOT to get a type-s over the base model. If you are on this site, you'll want the Type-S or you'll regret the lack of power when trying to keep up.

ok so if i bought a used 02 or 03 rsx-s the grinding problems and all that stuff would either already be fixed by the previous owner or i could take it to the local Honda dealer(the closest Acura dealer is 2 hours away)and have it fixed for free ?

odds are its not fixed, it wasn't a recall. Most people are just living with it. But yes, if you take it to the dealer and they witness the problem, they will repair it.

If you find an '02 or '03 don't treat it like it's got the plague because of the tranny. If you find one you like test drive it, if the dealer knows that you are serious they will practically hump your leg to get you to buy it and do almost anything. As far as the grind there is a bulleten posted by acura but if you test drive it and there isn't anything wrong with it at the time you should be good, just maintain.

Trust me, a college is a lot more important than driving a cool car. If you **** it up, you'll end up driving that RSX for the rest of your life And you will too, because Hondas never break!

One relatively minor thing that really pisses me off is the A pillars on that car. They're intrustive when you're trying to turn left.

Also no torque. Or for that matter, power.

The OEM tires suck. A lot.

What I do love about the car is that it handles decently in stock form, and it's very very pretty. It's a great daily driver at least.

I don't know exactly where you guys are coming up with the 02's being a problem more than the others. If you can prove it to me, i'll believe you. Otherwise, the only problem that I have had with mine is the infamous 2nd gear grind. It sucks, but you get used to it.

Yeah, for a FWD car that balances between daily driver and fun, the RSX is a great car. The few problems with rattles, tranny grind, and possibly low-speed suspension popping noises are all pretty mild. If you modify the struts/springs, you won't care about the popping, and the other two are really only in cold weather, and they typically go away pretty quickly as the car warms up, at least in my experience. Your mileage may vary. I've had two RSX's now (one base and one Type-S), and I don't regret either one. You can save yourself the power-lust down the road and just get a Type-S off the bat though.

Oh, and college - definitely more important than the car. Hell, think of the car that you could get if you had 15k to put down along with a post-college type salary. Good luck though. Hope you find a car you love.

X2.

I bought my RSX with the money I saved from college because I had a full scholarship... and it's nice have a pretty new car with the pretty Acura badge, but now I regret spending the money. Now I'm still trying to scrape up money for an '89 RX-7 as my track car

Save your money!

Funny, I have an '06 Type-S, and I was thinking of getting a 2nd gen RX-7 as a race car, too.

Bro go get yourself a Type-S because its always gonna be better than the base model. You always gotta add to make it better. However the "S" you can add so little and you get more on what you paid for. Besides if you wanna get an 05-06 model and you feelin the 02-04 front end, then by all means do a headlight and front bumper swap and there you got an 05-06 that looks like an 02-04. I love my Type S the way it is.
