world sport 2 + test pipe/hi flow cat?
first off, is a test pipe pretty much a straight pipe that replaces the cat? or is it something like a cat? anyways, i just got my ws2 and i love it, i was thinking of getting a little more power out of it by putting a straight pipe to replace the cat. the piping on the ws2 is 60mm (roughly 2 3/8 in.), so would getting a 2.25-2.5 pipe to replace the cat give me a little more power if the only other mod i have is an intake?
companies like apexi design street exhausts to produce a certain sound with a cat installed. if you remove the cat, you will lose the sound/tone and you will also have a much louder exhaust. i have heard cars (with exhaust systems) both before and after test pipes, and they sound really bad. the power gaind will be in the 3-6hp range with basic bolt ons and without tuning (which is not enough for me to remove the cat), you will get a lot more smoke coming out of your exhaust, and your exhaust will smell kind of funny/bad. IMO i would never get a test pipe unless it was a track built and tuned car.
My friend recently swapped a JDM H22 into his 95 prelude and he removed the cat (either hollowed it out, or just ran a test pipe). I have to say, his car sounds like ***. But it is pretty damn quick.
