Default VAFC tuning= better mileage??? specifically tl-s'

i posted on acurazine, but theyre no help... just a bunch of lookers with nothing to say.

anyways, i was looking around at tl-s dyno's and alot of people have i/h/e making 230's, but none of them are tuned. theyre all running an afr of about 12:1, and after vtec it dips to 11's. from what ive learned, by having my other car tuned... somewhere in the 13:1 is where you want to be. does that also hold true to the tl-s motor? if so, not only is more power to be had by tuning, but better mileage as well.

All gasoline motors have the same Stoichiometric ratio for a perfect burn. The stoichiometric ratio for gasoline is approximatly 14.7:1 meaning there are 14.7 gallons of air consumed for every 1 gallon of gasoline. You definatly dont want to go that high because the feedback controls and ecu are kindof slow to react and you would run a great risk of leaning out the engine which would cause some problems. That is why the stock settings have you running 12:1 under normal driving and in the 11:1 area when you are in higher rpms to lessen the chances of leaning out the engine. I wouldnt increase the air to fuel ratio unless you were to retrofit wideband o2 sensors on the car and even then it can be risky. You have to remember the car cant see how the fuel is burning until it is going out through the exhaust manifold so that is why it is slow to react. The only saving grace would be your knock sensors but then again if those get signal that the engine is knocking then you will loose any gain you might have gotten. If you have any more questions feel free to let me know

thanks for the info. if i do tune, i would run it on a dyno with a wideband and tune with the vafc2/neo. i would never go anywhere near 14.7:1, but i figured going from 11:1 to low 13's would be safe. i did the exact same thing on my crower cammed h22 and im getting decent mileage... last time i calculated i was getting 26mpg, and that was with a good amount of street driving and a few freeway runs.

im not expecting great mileage from a v6, but a little better mileage couldnt hurt... and when tuned properly, ill gain a few hp as well.

so has anyone tuned a tl-s?

just want to double check that leaning out to low 13's is safe?

if stock its running 11:1 post vtec, theres gotta be power to be had by tuning.
