OT: a toast to the end of the line
I hear this is the last year Acura will be selling the RSX in North America, and as I understand it, there's no replacement lined up for it. Sounds like it's the end for the Integra line, or at least what the Integra line had become.
I was always smugly satisfied that the RSX never sold in the numbers the third generation Integra had, especially since Acura had made the RSX more mundane than the Integra in hopes of mass appeal. Of course, changes to the car aren't the only reason I'm sure. A sharp increase in competition from other manufacturers in the RSX's price range and an economic downturn probably had something to do with it. Whatever the reason, the Integra line is soon to be defunct, at least in this market.
And that's really too bad.
I still like the idea of a compact, lightweight hatchback with a fun, fuel-efficient motor, and with the RSX gone there aren't any left. The Golf GTi has become so bloated as to rival a Mustang's weight, and the new Civic Si is a coupe, and is getting rather portly itself.
There's talk of a TSX coupe making an appearance in the Acura line, but that probably won't quite be the same kind of car as the Integras. Integras are Civic-based, and the Accord-based TSX platform is quite a bit larger. I can't imagine it coming in at much less than 3,000 lbs. and $30,000, and it will be a coupe, not a hatchback. Then again, the return of a double wishbone front end would be nice.
So if you happen to have a beer sitting next to your computer, I propose a brief toast to the end of the line for the Integra.
whats that saying..."all good things must end" or something like that.
In comparison to the R, I never really liked the RSX. Even the RSX-S didnt do it for me. Left me feeling rather bored. Just didnt have the rawness of the R. Dont think any other car during the Teg/RSX time really did have that same raw feeling that the R gives you. Maybe the EVO RS, but thats a different league.
