Has anyone used liquid electrical tape for wire connections?
I'm wiring up my obd1 swap right now... getting the harness all ready. I didn't have shrink wraps and the only ones from home depot were too small. I try to avoid Radio Shack like the plague.
Anyway, I got myself a bottle of that liquid electrical tape. I soldered all of the connections and then applied some of this stuff on top. So far I feel I've wasted my time because I need to use 3 applications before I feel that my solder is adequately covered. I'm thinking of still putting some electrical tape on top of it just to be safe.
Has anyone else used this stuff?

LOL... with an endorsement like that I might end up redoing all of my solders tomorrow.

I happen to like this stuff, it is durrable (when enough coats are used) and is waterproof. Still doesnt beat heat shrink tubing though
Liquid electrical tape works well in my opinion. I have used it under the hood and have not had any issues but it doesn't compare to heat shrink tubing.
Ya know Super 33 is great for most applications as well...

liquid elect tape is not something i would use except for underground splices. heat-shrink tubing is my 1st choice for auto wiring.

i've never used liquid elec tape.
do you have fry's electronics nearby? they have the best selection of heat shrink tubing.

Unfortunately I moved from Southern California (plenty of Fry's) to Utah (zero Fry's). The best I can find is Radio Shack. The bad thing about Radio Shack is that it's just a SPrint store now adays. I went in asking for heat shrink yesterday and the guy had ZERO idea what I was talking about.
UGH!
Anyway, I spent a few hours yesterday redoing all of my wiring with heat shrinks. I'd rather have it done right the first time and take a little longer.

radio shack is not what it use to be that for sure anyone can work there now. my gf told me that they use to sell restistor but you had to order them. they don't even know what i'm talking about now. the manager came out and told me they can't even get those anymore. i was like umm ok then your no good get out of town. and walk out.
Do you have a Home Depot or a Lowe's nearby? That's where I get all my heat shrink tubing from in the electrical area.
allelectronics.com has it ALL, every size in any quantities you need. HIGHLY recomended, I recently bought 20 rolls of electricsl tape from them fo about 5$. comes in all different colors too.
you got a few basic catagories.
bad/temporary
tire them together and tape. butt ends also included in this catagory bc they put unwanted resistence on your wire.
better
solder with liquid electrical tape or super 33 or 88
best
solder and heatshrink. why?
1 - locks out all moisture
2 - insulates
3 - looks clean as hell
why dont people do it? it takes a few extra seconds. thats it. stupid reason not to do something right.
ill give you an example, ever pull a cluster in an ED? for some reason they only have one constant power wire going to the cluster in the harness, so to double it up, they solder and heatshrink an extra lead for the other side of the cluster.
if thats how they do it factory, chances are you're on the right tack if you do it for your own mods, don't you think?
but if you wrap with electrical tape its fine as long as you soldered, im kind of **** when i do ****. its really a matter of choice.
