Default How do I tell if a trans has a 40mm Dif or 35mm without opening???

Sooo the Honda parts departments has no clue what's going on and I need help from HT.

I have a trans (not sure what year) all I do know is it's a 5spd cable and the inside race of the differential is 40mm. (Seems like most of them are 35mm).

Anyways I was attempting to reassemble this all last night and come to find out I'm missing a couple of parts.

So I figured I would go buy another trans - does anyone know how to identify the difference between the two by looking at he outside trans?

Thanks in advance.

A couple of the bearings that slip onto the gear assembly and the fork that engages the reverse gear. Also a tension bolt - I don't have the book in front of me so I'm with out the exact names

right above the oil fill plug there is an indent with some numbers in it. if it says PL3/3000 it is a 40mm case. if it says anything else like PL3/A100 or PL3/A000 it is a 35mm case

Pop one of the oil seals off where the axles go in, and measure the width of the differential (outside diameter).

Thanks - I popped off one of the oil seals and was able to measure the diff that way.

No problem. Much better than having to rip the transmission case open again unnecessarily.

If you need to replace the axle oil seals, I think I have the part numbers for those as well. If I recall correctly, one of the part numbers in Honda's database is wrong for the Si tranny oil seals.
