Default Head gasket leak? 91 Civix DX

Hi,

When I open the rediator cap the water starts to flow out similar to "coming out from a fountain". If I race the motor water comes out for about 5 seconds and again water level goes down.

The engine got bit heated last week in the express way, the temp indicater has gone up to 2/3 's in the dial, but never to the red zone. Then I found a water leak due to a crack in the top of the radiator.

Will this be a leak of the head gasket? If so what are the cheaper options?

Thanks in advance.

You definately have a blown head gasket
It's not very hard to do that at all just takes some tools and patience
Trying to stop the leak isn't going to be permanent.

My buddy did it in his truck 1 year ago and it still working. but Yes changing the gasket is always preffered. Especially if its your primary car. My CRX is not my primary car so I did it this way.

if youve changed the timing belt then you can do this..

you basically need something to scrap off the old gasket, socket set,and good tq wrench..and just follow the specs in the manual both tq and sequence...also when you replace the headgasket dont put that paper back in,,get a metal headgasket..how do you know its the headgasket for sure anyway?? is there white puffy smoke coming out the back the smells like coolant?

Thanks,
I did not get the puffy smoke!

But I flushed the radiator two days ago. Running with water to clean it. I think I will not get the puffy somke due to this??

im just saying that when headgaskets are leaking then the motor would be burnining coolant,,,,and you would see the white puffy smoke out the exhaust....maybe your problem is just the radiator...i mean you said it was cracked??

yep, just a small crak near one of the radiator mounts. but not a big one.

White puff thing is not going to work right now since there is no coolent in the radiaor, only water. But I can fill it with coolent and check it tomorrow.

Any other way of varifying whether it is the gasket?

One more thing, do I need to change the inlet and outlet manifold gaskets too, if I need to change the head gasket?

Thanks for your help

it doesnt matter if you're running full water or 50/50 mix you should still see the white puffy smoke burning out the back tailpipe

Checked the smoke just now. It is colorless as usual.

Any way of verifying whether it is the gasket or not?

Thanks

check the oil to see if its mixing it will look like chocoalte milk,,and/or do a compresion test..but a compression test is iffy sometimes you can have a blown headgasket and still get perfect compression,,,,

In fact the in the water in the rediator becomes like chocolate milk. Thought it was due to corroded water pump blades, which I changed with the timing belt.

But the oil looks fine.

yeah im my case. Its minor so it was hard to tell. But in my car there was water coming out of the tail pipe mixed with oil. Im thinking its headgasket. also I smelled my coolant and I can smell oil in there even though I could really see it.
