Lose my teg for a prelude?
Alright I have a 1993 Acura Integra RS w/80k mi's on the clock, it has a custom intake, 12.8 lb ACT Flywheel, Exedy Stage 1 Clutch, and some misc minor things done. I am thinking about getting a new car since the teg is rusting to death, I found a 1994 Prelude VTEC with 118k mi's for $4500. Now before you start saying thats way to much money keep in mind this is the 3rd prelude VTEC I have ever seen for sale since I starting searching around about 2 years ago (I live in the middle of nowhere).
So here is my questions:
•My integra can do 0-60 in 7.5 secs with a passenger, will the prelude be at least that fast?
•I know the prelude weighs about 300 lbs more than my teg, is it noticable?
•I have heard that most b series transmissions suck (and the ones I have used do), is the Prelude VTEC trans any good?
•Should I try and get the prelude even though it has such high miles? WIll it have bad compression with that kind of mileage? Is there anything I can do short of a rebuild to increase it's compression?
Thanks

A 200hp 2.2L VTEC engine should be AT LEAST as fast as a 145hp 1.8L non VTEC engine
Prelude transmission is fine (feel around for 5th gear grinding, but I think thats only in 97 and up)
118k is really nothing on a honda

I have two friends with H22 swapped Accords(same **** basically, front suspension's the same, they're just a little heavier)...they're beasts, and with I/H/E the VTEC crossover is like night and day.
I beat a 5-speed DA in my stockish F22 Accord with A/C, ABS, CC and a 100# stereo...and a bad clutch.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I will be really happy with a prelude, because of well the one thing that the b series lacks... torque
Also does anyone know how much of a difference the H22 is as opposed to the H23, I know they produce the same torque, and obviously the H22 is faster cause it has more HP, but how much faster?

The VTEC model is just slightly faster than the Si. But you get more than just an engine upgrade. Leather wrapped steering wheel, larger front brakes, 7 speaker stereo, map lights (94-96), and leather seats (94-96). Of course its also fun to have a rare car. I bought my 93 two years ago for 6200 with 98,000 miles. No it has 127k and the motor is solid. I love my car and its more fun to drive than my old civic, accord, and any of my friends integra/rsx. Just be aware that at your mileage you will have alot of things about to wear out. Axles, master cylinder, a/c controls, and oil leaks will be an issue. Just set aside some cash for when this happens.

You really expect us (in the Prelude forum) to say anything besides take the Prelude? But yeah....the prelude is better.

Well....H23 actually has a bit more torque and keeps it longer in its curve, but yes the H22 has higher on paper hp numbers. H23 has longer gears, so will get better gas mileage when just cruising at highway speeds (lower rpms). Which is why some people, including me, with H23's will put an H22 head on it; H23 displacement + gas mileage + vtec.

So in other words I might actually be better off without the H22, if I built the H23's head? or would VTEC make that much of a difference?, and upgraded the brakes? I absolutely hate leather, and never listen to music when I drive the sound of my B18A churning is all I need.
I had a B16A CRX and the only thing I noticed when the VTEC kicked in was the sound changed, it didn't feel magically faster like most people say. Also I read on one of these forums that putting an H22 Head on a H23 was bad becuase of compression ratios or something along those lines. Also does the H23 and the H22 have equally as good crank shafts?
Thanks

If you tear down a H23 and replace the pistons with ones from a H22 (more compression), and then put a H22 head on it you'll have a nice engine. It's a decent amount of work, though, and only for the strong of heart. If you don't want to get into that, just buy a VTEC lude and enjoy OEM reliablity at a moderate pace.

definately go with the lude as for the h23vtec frankenmotor stay away from that i have a friend who has had 3 of them built. he loves it to death and i mean to death, all 3 of them have blown up and no one knows why except that he always managed to bend a valve for some reason
I just bought a '95 Vtec 'Lude (92-96=4th Gen by the way), harder to find Vtec in these years. I had a '93 SI (H23) w/ over 200K on it (stock motor/trans etc), and I love the new car. H23 is a great motor but the aftermarket support is lacking compaired to the H22, plus you get another toy, VTEC, in the car that it was introduced in, what could be better? Like the other guys said, once you go Prelude, you never go back.
