EF four door auto as mail delivery car........auto shifter removal question?
I wanted to use a 90" "automatic" civic sedan (gutted to fit all the mail) to deliver mail in......since it is a console shifter.....is it possible to remove the shifter from the floor and just shift the gears by hand with the cables?(P to D etc) So I can do the classic mail man drive from the right move....let me know what you guys think ...thanks
John

i have a rhd landrover i'll sell you.
gutted car with lots of stuff in it, iffy shifting, and no seatbelts seems like a bad idea to me, but i'm sure you could figure something out.

ehh how much depends on price....this was a good deal i jsut didnt wanna buy it then find out i couldnt do it
the landrover part was kind of a joke. it is for sale though if you're interested. i've never passed a mailman that wasn't jealous, as it is a damn near perfect small mail vehicle, and it still gets chicks at the beach.
i'm just advocating a bit of safety here. not to mention that it seems like what you are talking about would be a HUGE pain in the *** to deal with on a daily basis.
are there any column mounted cars that might swap over? i've never taken apart an automatic shifter mechanism, so i don't really know what is involved.

This is the one and only time that I will say this on here....get a RHD conversion for your car. There I said it.

Digging up an old one kinda.
By looking at this:
It looks like it would be rather simple to shift it with just the cable. Might have to ground out or complete the circuit of a sensor or two (to let you get out of park perhaps), but that would be easy enough to permanently accomplish with a crimp connection. It looks to me like the push button merely lets the shifter go through a gate... and isn't connected to the tranny... so you'd wanna be careful of accidentally knocking it into/outof gear.
Atleast it gives you an idea of what it's gonna look like when ya take it apart.
Oh and the pic is at http://www.majestichonda.com for a 90 dx civic with a ka4at (the only automatic tranny listed).
Hope it helps...
