Boosted D15B SOHC VTEC or boosted DOHC ZC??? I searched!!!
Ok, so I had a little post going a while ago about whether I should boost a ZC or get a B16 with the money instead.
But I changed my mind.
Now I am wondering, in the long run, should I swap a D15B SOHC VTEC and save up to boost that, or should I swap in a DOHC ZC and save up to boost that.
They both seem to be around the same price.
I have searched like crazy and my findings show that stock a lot more people enjoy the DOHC ZC cause of the torque and such, but mine wouldn't always stay stock, and so this is an area that isn't covered in these searches.
Also my 89 DX Hatch is an automatic so I would eventually have to swap trannys. Which of these motors means less work in terms of everything?
It seems that the D15 swaps pretty much right in, with some ECU changes, but I thought that I read that the ZC needs mount mods, shift linkage, etc, etc...
I don't really wanna deal with that. So let me know!!!
THANKS!
EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My plan was turbo, but now I think I might wanna SC it? Any ideas yet?

Also I am wondering what different parts interchange onto these motors, like which other heads fit onto the D15 and the ZC, etc.
Thanks again,

Wow.. this has to be the 3rd or 4th "Bosted X or Boosted Y" thread I have seen this week.
ZC uses the same mounts and linkage. Just different axles if you use the ZC tranny.
Look at autoworks boosted ZC thread, I think there are two of them. The ZC is lower compression so it will be more tuner friendly but having a bosted VTEC motor seems to make a lot of people happy.
A better idea, boost what you have now. when is blows up, learn from your mistake and get a new engine. Thats my plan at least.

the D15B VTEC is OBD1, so you will need to convert your car to OBD1, get a conversion harness, etc. - for any swap, you will need to convert wiring from DPFI to MPFI - you will also need to swap out the driver's side mount - DOHC ZC bolts right in with nothing other than the DPFI to MPFI wiring changes required
So which is easier then? As lame as it seems I might consider keeping my automatic.
I want to get the motor now but not SC it until pretty far down the road. So basically right now I had to decide which motor do I want?
My motor has 198,000 miles on it. I don't know how much longer it would last boosted... Haha.

the ZC is easier because you don't need to convert to OBD1 and buy conversion harnesses, etc. - the ZC will bolt right to your auto transmission - the DOHC ZC came stock in 88-91 JDM ED Si cars, so it goes right in - the D15B VTEC came in JDM EG cars - you can't use the hydraulic clutch transmission in your car without fabricating mounts and either converting to hydraulic clutch or converting the transmission to cable clutch operation - in stock form, the ZC will run rings around the D15B

DOHC ZC would be the easier route. But it would be cool to have a single cam VTEC. Nonetheless if I were in your shoes I would go for the ZC mainly because it's easier and of course, dual cam baby
ZC rods are the same as D16A6, D16Z6, D16Y8, etc. rods - the 86-87 D16A1 Integra had the thicker rods
Wow, thanks to all of you for the quick and full replies. So it looks like the DOHC ZC will actually be a lot easier swap. Is the reason why I don't need to swap to OBS1 because of the VTEC or the actual generation of the car? Just curious. Looks like the ZC would be best thought. And with thicker rods or whatever it would run well with the supercharger that would hopefully eventually come.
Are you really gonna stay automatic? Good luck finding a obd0 MPFI auto ECU. Think only the 88-91 EX sedan had it and they are rare.
