Default brake shims came loose and cut my rotor...

i installed new brembo rotors and ebc greenstuff pads 2 weeks ago on my accord. ever since then they've been squeeling and making noise while i drove (which i thought was weird as i did the rears a yr ago with the same setup and they make no noise whatsoever). i said i'd give them 200 miles to break in, and hopefully the noises would stop. so i've drivin around 700 miles since the install and the noise has gotten worse. they squeel when i brake and make noise while the car is moving.... last night i finally got a chance to take a look at the front left brakes, and it turns out the shim moved off the pad and toward the middle of the rotor... and it actually sliced my rotor, i'd say about 1/8" deep.

i dont remember using an old shim, so i'm pretty sure the shim was on the ebc pad (can anybody confirm?). i checked the right front brakes, and the shim is also moving, moved about a cm... so now i have a pad without a shim, another with the shim moving, and a sliced rotor about 1/8" deep.

so what do i do now? should i just remove the shims and install the pads without them? should i replace the rotor that's sliced 1/8" all round? buy new pads n rotors again? thanks.

I wouldn't worry about the rotor. But you can replace the shim or leave it out, it's really just there for noise control.

yeah, don't worry that during hard braking, your rotor could just break.

replace the rotor.

yea, i defenetly don't want it to crack on me. i just ordered a new one. should be here by tuesday.

in the mean time, i removed the bad shims and put everything back together. test drove it, no noise, may drive it some more tonight to see how it sounds.

Oh yea sorry your right. I guess my experience as a Honda technician is null in this situation.
And how much weaker did this 1/32 of material make a rotor with probably about 12mm of material originally get?
It's not going to hurt anything. I've seen much worse than this before.
