How can i bend this?
I have a header where the collector aims up towards the car. This creates a huge exhaust leak. Can i heat the header up by running the car hard for a while, and then just pull the collector down a tad to warp it into shape with a chain? This is the 2nd header that does this. has anybody done this with sucsess?
i dont think that running the car hard will get enough heat to bend the header. I dont know for sure though. I wouldnt mess with a header that was that hot. Can an exhaust shop not fix something like this. I have never heard of it, but if it has happened before, i am sure a shop would know about it, and they would know how to fix it
Let me get this straight, your header is warping from the heat, and it is making the collector point up?
what kind of header is it? if it is some ebay craptastic header, then just get a decent header.
edit: reread post, you didnt say the header was warped from heat, but why is it pointing up to begin with?

You could the stock one back untill you can afford a header that fits. They might charge you more at a shop to fix that then you payed for a ebay header, not worth it
LOL!! I WOULD GO BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THE CAR TO MAKE SURE THE HEADER GETS REALLY HOT THEN TRY UR LIL BEND-IT THING. IF ITS EBAY THE METAL IS PROBABLY THIN ENOUGH SO U CAN BEND IT WHEN ITS HOT. JUST BE EASY AND WRK SLOW. IF IT CRACKS OR SOMETHING PUT UR STOCK ONE BACK ON.
Invest in a little flex pipe man, and possibly a new doughnut gasket the one on there my be old and not sealing right on the new header. If it only needs to go a small amount I would think that both of those things would fix it for you
well looked into the flex pipe......250! WTF!!@! no shop around here charges less....So i take it bending the header will do more harm than good? this sucks, the leak is so dam huge.
take it to a local welding shop, weld the flange on the head side down on one side. then heat the lower 90 bend with a tiger torch for a couple seconds tell its red hot.. then simply grab the collector and bend it down. let it cool, tada done.
Do you have a welder?
What I would do is go to autozone and pick up a piece of their 2.5" piping and cut off the flange with about 2" of the collector still connected to it, and then cut off the big end of the 2.5" autozone piping and cut it & shave it to make it go to the angle you need it to be at, and then weld it.
If you don't have a welder you could still do this, but tape it up and then take it to a welder/exhaust shop and have them weld it.
2 beads shouldn't cost you more than 10-15 bucks.

That could be the problem, but if the collector on the header is pointing upwards I think it might be the header.

well yes, its still aimed upwards, but not by much...ill have to get down under there tommrow and see, but i think if the opening on the cat was larger, the gasket would be able to fit inside a little better.

Game, set and match.
Buy a shitty product, deal with shitty problems. Is this really a surprise?

ok, just a little knowledge for you, the cup joint style flange is designed for unparallel mounting. thats the reason theres no flex pipe in the stock system. the reason the cheap headers leak there is because the stock cup is too small for the donut gasket to smush down into. you will have problems w/ it until you A: replace it w/ a better header B: take your car out weld the flange to a flex section (which are available on ebay for $25shipped). or C: boost that **** and make your own downpipe w/ flex installed. my personal recomendation would be C FTW.
Too bad you're not local.
I'm known for taking easy, unimportant **** and making it work (usually not pretty, but definatly works)
I still think my suggestion would be the cheapest and possibly easiest. No point in spending $50 on your $20 header.
