Default If you had ......

If you have a Scion tC that had a stock h/u, and have a 10w6v2 powered by a jl 250/1...what would you buy as components? I love to listen to loud music...but I want it to be clean...Right now it's aggravating the **** out of me because the sub seems to overpower the highs...what would you guys get?

*edit* money is not an object...well yeah it is...willing to spend about $1,000-$1,500...

I'm a fan of the Dynaudio system 360. they'll fit into your budget if that budget is for speakers only. plan on spending close to that for an amp to power them.

I'd get a new headunit first. A decent aftermarket headunit will put out more power than your factory one, and also give you front, rear, and sub crossovers (to protect your speakers).

For components I'm a big fan of diamond audio. Very smooth when you use their silk dome tweeters.

Personally I wouldn't buy a component set unless I bought an amp at the same time

I would throw in a better headunit, You can have the best speakers in the world but there going to sound like $hit if the signal is garbage. Also look into getting a amp for ur new components. And don't skimp on a set of good rca's,

What is the use of buying 500 dollars speakers with the same oem unit and it will still sound like crap. Like this guy said change the h.u. first. Now the h.u. is not about how much power its going to make thats what amps are for. U want to look for h.u. that will deliver clarity to yur speakers. Also unit that will have front, rear, and subs outputs. And a unit that has a low/high pass crossover will come in handy too.

Oh btw diamond rocks!!!!

Alpine is ok, but just that imho. Personally I think their decks have a steep learning curve for someone who has never used one before, and for the bang for the buck factor , they are lacking. Their amps tend to seem underpowered and their speakers aren't all that fantastic either. Granted I haven't heard their type X or F1 stuff, but I've heard $140 coaxials that sound better than the type R separates. Can you tell I'm not an alpine fan?

Make sure you research before you buy man, impulse decisions can be a killer unless they are well-informed (this coming from a car stereo salesman ). Keep posting questions and we'll keep answering

I myself used to be a kenwood fan now i have a pioneer and i love it.

This are the top h.u. that i like:

Eclipse
Pioneer
Panasonic

All i can say go to a audio shop and here them out. WE all have different taste so just go and check em out and see which one you like.

I don't like pioneers apart for their avic stuff, and even then it's just for nav. Eclipse's used to be good, but they've sold out I had one in my car and it sounded AMAZING, but it required A LOT of tweaking to get it right.

I like kenwoods because they're usually drop it in and it sounds good, no tweaking really needed. Panasonic on the other hand =

Just as an FYI - a steep learning curve means that something is easy to pick up - a common misusage is that a steep learning curve makes something difficult to lean....it's just not true. The learning curve depicts how long it takes for someone to gain knowledge, the steeper the curve, the faster you learn

As for the OP. I have two words - Seas Lotus

OEM headunits, generally are not that bad when used as a preamp. The headunit in my car is made by alpine - and has balanced outputs Personally, I'm not a fan of a lot of the sets you have mentioned, but you have to do yourself a favor and go audition speakers to see what you think of them.

I'm a fan of Seas Lotus Reference set - it sounds just fantastic. I also like DLS speakers and Dynaudio are nice as well. As always, install is everything, so spend a little more on the install and you should fare pretty well.

Kenwoods, for the average consumer, are a fantastic unit. Good feature set in every price point, and not too hard on the wallet. Eclipses used to be good, but no so much before ( my previous deck is in my sig )

For my own car I'd love a mcintosh deck, but I'm not that much of a baller. I did however get a hell of a deal on a kvt915

btw dont want to spend over $350 for a h/u

hate to be a post *****..but i was just thinking...my co-worker/friend has a 12 kicker comp with a kenwood KAC-7252 (2 channel amp with 170 watts rms x 2) do you think it'll sound better than a w6v2 that is powered on a jl 250/1? i mean his sub hits hard...then again my sisters ex bf had a w6 and it was loud and sounded so clean...what do you guys htink?

Yeah this forum doesn't move very fast

As far as decks I would stay away from alpine at the 350$ price point. Having no crossovers in a deck for that much is ridiculous.Instead I would get the kenwood excelon kdcx790 - 5volt preouts, built in aux in, good 24bit dac, blah blah blah blah.

I know what I do because I've been a car stereo salesman for the past two years, and I actually enjoying learning about this stuff, so I read in my spare time

As far as amps/subs go, I'm not really a kenwood fan, more of a boston acoustic/diamond audio fan. Unfortunately I haven't found one brand that I can stick behind and say "I'd buy a whole system from them" given what I now know, though rcurly may attest to me not having enough experience in high end stuff

In my own car I have a boston GT24 and a G5 12" woofer in the trunk. I'm running about 600watts rms @ 4ohm to the sub and it sounds as clean as possible for a del sol, yet it's still loud when I want to crank it. Btw the setup is for sale (/end shamless plug)

Ht seems to be HEAVILY in to JL, and they're a decent brand but there's always better out there. I'd definitly recommend looking in to some diamond audio and boston acoustics subs: all you have to do is find a local dealer and go listen. In the end this is about what you like

okay..so im going look into that deck you recommended...as far as the jl stuff goes...i got that stuff as a high school graduation present...free stuff is good ....you work for an audio store in general? i wish i could have a job at an audio store while being in school...

Imo pioneers don't sound as good as kenwoods, are trickier to use, and their crossovers are sloppy.
