Default Installing an Xbox into a Civic

Hi All,
As a little project I am looking at installing an xbox into my civic sedan (my GF would love it for the long trips...)

Havent really thought much about the setup, other than:
Cordless controls (if necessary)
Start with the one monitor in the passenger sun visor
New head deck that can play dvds (and with av ins for the xbox)

Other than that, Im not sure what else to plan for. Im not even sure where would be the best place to mount the box (I was thinking about under the globe box....would there be enough room?)

Any ideas/tips would be appreciated.

Wow, how about you guys cut him some slack and actually help him instead of flaming him. Grow up.

I can't really help you, because I'm not very knowledable when it comes to wires and electronics. However, I'd like to see some more information on this.

ok...
Well, you'll need a power inverter (a decent one) to power the xbox.

....you'll have better luck asking here instead:

You need

the Xbox
A Power Inverter
A Screen
A CD player with RCA inputs (red and white for the simple folk). (Any basic one will work as long as it has RCA inputs)

This is really easy to do.

Install your monitor where ever, you said visor so okay. It's going to need a 12v source. If it doesnt have a power button, I might suggest wiring it to something with an ignition-on power. So it only come on with the car on.

Plug in or hard wire your inverter.

Plug xbox to that.

Run the video cable to the monitor.

Rub the RCA cables to the RCA input on your deck... OR get a Y adapter that lets you plug a phone jack into it and then plug in a headphone set with volume adjustment built in the wire.

Done.

Turn car on, power should now run to the inverter => xbox, to the monitor, to your player.

Now you can listen to tunes while she plays since the monitor has constant video. Or you can change modes to RCA input and have the game play throughout the car... unless you did the headphone set up.

As far as mounting something as big and clunky as an crap box? anywhere you can make room and still get to all the buttons.

This is not hard, too bad half the idiots who replied probably have no idea how to do this. They mock you, but in reality they would think it was sweet if it was in their car on long road trip.

Thanks for the info!

Im not too worried about accessing the buttons, since I could just wire a power switch near the driver seat. Dont plan on accessing the dvd drive while its in the car. As for the OG nintendo, the box is chipped so that solves that part as well

ok seriously...screw the X-box, go on egay, get a PSone with the LCD screen, the lighter power supply that plugs into the lighter and she can put that bad boy on her lap and go nuts with it I got one and it does wonders between classes at school, just plug the crap pile into my lighter, turn it to accessory, press power....doesn't get any easier than that. Nothing beats oldschool playstation games likes some metal gear, or hot shots golf, or final fantasy 7. Total cost would be about 40 bucks. 30 for the used PSone with LCD, and 2 bucks a game, or games are free if you pay 20 for a mod chip.

Basically all I have to say is ignore most of what everyone said here and check the identical topic you started in the Audio / Security / Video section.

Only decent answer I saw here was what Vero had to say. I still would go the route that doesn't need an inverter if you can. I left some information on the other identical topic you started here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1653158

I'm close to finishing a similer project.

Steps I would take:
1) Open Xbox and find out what version you have if you have not already.
2) Buy car computer PSU and rewire it or pay someone to do it.
3) Install PSU in XBox after removing stock PSU.
4) Figure out were you are going to put it in the car.
5) Wire it in. Red=Battery White=Ignition Black=Ground
6) Hook up your LCD screen wereever you want it. and connect the video to it (Yellow RCA).
7) Run audio to the headunit. (Red & White RCA).

Congrats you now have an Xbox installed with no inverter. Thus you have no chance of noise coming from an inverter, no extra heat, wasted energy, or having to deal with wiring in another thing to and the possibility of another device messing up.

I will be getting more pictures but here is a bit of my Car XBox Media Center project here:

If you buy an Xbox for your car just so your GF can have fun with it for long trips, you're a god damn tool.

Tell her to play with your joystick, that way you both get fun. She gets to play Pong irl and you get to feel great on the road trip.

She can even make it like real Pong and use her left hand with the joystick and her right hand to hold the paddle in the air and try to bounce it back and forth.

I wouldn't buy an Xbox for my car just because my girl wants to play games on road trips. I'll get her a god damn PSP or a DS and just get her the lighter converter.
