Default My 91 Civic Project (56K Warning)

***EDIT June 8, 2006: There been some confusion on how & what I did on repairing my civic, I had fixed it back in 2003 when I purchased it and now 3 years later it needs to be re-fixed. I've added some dates to the pics***

Hi All,
Just join the group a few days ago. I've learnt alot in just a few days by reading old topics, have to say this is a great forum!

Now on with my project. I bought the 91 Civic Cx a few years ago (My first car) and did a quick job on it, here are the pics, but a few years of being up north took a toll on her. So I'm going to refix her back up and document the whole thing so others can learn also

This time around I have some little mods that I want to do, shave black spacer on the hatch, shave the antenna off of the roof, and relocate it to the spoiler, etc....

***EDIT: Here's a pic of how she looked like when I first got her home.
Note: it looked good, but It was actually cover in White Latex Exterior Paint that was hand brushed on, the previous owner did that to hide the rust spots that it had. And you would not believe how hard it was to get it off!!****

Here are the pics of the original project:
This was when I first purchased her back in 2003:

What it looked like last year:
This is what she looked like back in Spring 2005:

What it looks like this year 2006:
After three winters:

primer is like a sponge it soaks up all water into the body...and now you see the end result..(note: to everyone that rolls a primer car this could be you...)

Haha, where did you get that idea? I've been painting cars long enough to know thats not smart! I sandblasted everything and used at the time a Aluminum Filler to fix the small holes (My first time trying the Aluminum out, only last 3 years) This time I'm going to be fixing it with Fibreglass.
It is worth saving:
A). I love this car, I'll even take it to my grave if I can, lol.
B). The underneath is still in great shape.
C). I'm turning her into my show car as I run a full-time Vinyl Graphics Biz.
D). If I was to try and find another civic around in my parts of the woods, a completely rotten civic goes for over $1200Cdn. (no joke!)

I used a Acrylic Primer, its waterproof, the water just beads right off.
The main reason why it still rusted through was I sandblasted most of it at the time with a mixed of Economic Walnut Shells Mix, and I didn't do really good job. I'm 100% sure that I didn't get rid of all the rust. (Mine own fault really)

This time around I'm making sure I get rid of all rust (No sandblasting, I will be grinding it away and cutting it out. I'll be using the POR-15 System to do the car inside and out.

The bottom of the Wing is black plastic, but the top is all metal.

Frost White NH538, same as it originally came, but I used Alkyd Enamel with a Medium Reducer.

is it only rusting where rust used to be? Or is the rust located in new spots that were not rusted prior to new paintjob?

Yes the Rust is same spots, exactly where I have used a Aluminum filler which I regret using in the first place!

Oh Ya!, well it is my daily driver. I always made sure to change the oil regularly, keep it undercoated, put new parts in whenever needed.
Just last week I put in a new passenger side wheel bearing, and transaxle.
Last month I put in the driver side wheel bearing, and transaxle.
Also all new front suspension, shocks, springs, ball joints, etc... (Got a wicked good deal from a seller for a set off of ebay with all the ball joints, tie-rods, etc..)

Dang it! How's the weather doing for everone else, its keeps raining here and won't stop!! The weather website says its goning to keep raing for me till wednesday, argh!! http://www.meteomedia.com/Mete...9.htm

I guess I'll just start working on the inside of the car for the time being.
I'm getting sick of factory blue, and need a change, would appeciate some opinions on color schemes for the interior?
I'm taking everything out, and going to reupholster the seats.
(Yes, I can sew! Yes, I took sewing class way back in highschool, yes, its was a lame way of trying to pickup girls, and No, its didn't work was a waste of time, though I thought until now!!) - I hope noone quotes me on that, lol!
