Tranny is hard to shift
Hey guys.
I have an 88 CRX, and the tranny is messing up bad.
I baught it about 2 months ago from a private sale, and not sure if he had serviced the tranny or not. I don't really know when the last time the oil was changed either.
So, this is basically what happens:
Early in the morning, when I start the car to go to work, everything works smooth. Shifting to first to role out of my driveway is perfect. It takes me 10 minutes to get to work, and then I park the car for 8 hours. Everything works perfectly, even my drive home from work.
So today, I took an extra long drive (maybe 40 minutes this time), and after a while, shifting into 1st gear is EXTREMELY hard. Shifting from 1st to 2nd, is fine, but not normal, and neither is shifting to the other gears. Reverse is a MASSIVE grind, even after waiting 2 seconds in neutral, or doing that 3rd to R trick.
Basically what happens is: From a complete stop (red light), shifting into ANY gear is tough (except 3rd). I don't know what's wrong with it, nor do I have enough knowledge to diagnose the transmission myself, but I thought I'd give it a shot and try the first thing; drain and change the transmission oil. That didn't work.. Gears shift fine when the car is off (it didn't before) but other than that, it's still hard to shift after the car warms up.
What I know about the car is the clutch has been changed professionally.
The problem happens, I THINK, when the car warms up longer than my usual 10 minutes.
Need help. Don't want my little rex to die!

Same thing happens to my car only not as badly. Tranny was rebuilt a while back but once in a while (not everyday), 1st gear is hard as hell to shift into. I mean, I end up applying enough force to feel it "pop" into 1st before I go. Rest of the gears are alright though. Sometimes if I give the engine a quick rev or two up to +/-2k rpms the tranny will go into gear easily. Dunno what's up with it, but I'd like to know what's up too!

Yea it's really pissing. Some Honda owners told me to check the cable for the clutch, and adjusting it might be better. Others have suggested wiggling the linkage and if it's loose then replace.
I really don't know what's wrong.
Let's bump this again.

Change the gear oil in there to Syncromesh. You will notice an improovement for sure.
Second, get new shift linkage bushing. Energy suspension kits cost around 20$, and replace everything, well worth it.
If it still grinds, get a low kms tranny cause that ones just getting old, or you can rebuild it.

Adjust the clutch cable, it's not disengaging the clutch all the way. The cable stretches over time and this happens, I have to adjust mine pretty often. Give it a couple of clock wise turns and you'll be all set.
