Default Lexan Rear Hatch Glass

I was thinking about using lexan in my rear hatch since my glass was destroyed before I got the car. My only dilemma is what about my rear defroster.

Opinions/Ideas/Experiences welcomed.

BTW, I searched, only 2 results came up.

well obviously a rear defroster is out of the question with a lexan piece... i think FAL makes a pretty nice piece

couldn't you just paint in your own rear-defroster somehow?

And I like Speedglass from Percy's HP...some good scratch-resistant and form-fitted Lexan there

wait savings, depends on who they ship with weight savings i'm taking a logicated stab at this but i'm pretty sure a good CF trunk w/ lexan will save around 60-65LBS if not more, the factory stuff back there is heavy ****.

don't think the sun will do anything to it, i'd contact FAL just to make sure of it though, and i don't see anything wrong with streeting a set up like this

good bye rear wiper and maybe brake light. Might not be strong enough to support both.

Lexan is a bad idea for a street car. You need to use a special cleaner, it scratches easily, no defroster can be used as mentioned earlier and the weight savings aren't enormous (hatch glass is 22 lbs).

Here is a pic of my setup....

If I had to GUESS,I would think the weight savings would be in the 80lbs range. You will lose rear wiper/defroster.I bought this setup from Options Auto Salon in Cali. The hatch is a VIS,the window a FAL,Options doesnt deal with VIS anymore so I guess you would have to find someone that deals with them.I used 3M window weld to put the FAL window in.

I'd use speedglass anyway. The hatch weight change should be the biggest part of this weight issue.....and I am considering it for a racecar.
