Hey Integra dudes.

I am thinking of buying a used Integra. Which year, motor, trimline is a good starting point? Basically I want to make sure that there is a adequate aftermarket support for going turbo. I am thinking within 3 years to be turbed with some internal work to strengthen bottom end.

Is it worth it to build up the B18xx's? Is there aftermarket support for the Vtec motor? What is a common swap motor for the Integra?

Thanks Integra people.

There is a plethora of aftermarket stuff for the B18s with or without vtec. There are about 2 or 3 companies I know of that make turbo kits and 2 or 3 that make superchargers. The real question you have to ask yourself is, how much do I want to spend? Will my buget get me to where I want to be?

Swap a motor out of an Integra? Why?

Whether you get an LS/GS, GSR, or Type-R, they're all excellent engines.

For turbo, I'd recommend a 94-95, since they have the OBD-I ECUs which are much better for tuning and can be easier to put standalone fuel management like Hondata on.

Far as models, IMO a GSR has a great starting point. Type-Rs are not always good if you plan on turboing, since they have such a high compression ratio. Though the LS/GSs have longer geared trannies which are nice with a turbo and tend to have a little more torque. There are trade offs for everything.

Why swap a motor in an Integra? All Integra motors are great platforms to build from. Most Civics with motor swaps have Integra motors. And while you're looking for an Integra, don't forget about 2nd generation Integras (90-93). A 92-93 GS-R would be a good start for a turbo since it has a stock compression ratio of 9.7:1 and it's VTEC. But they are hard to find. I have a friend who had a very strong 95 GS-R turbo, so I'm stuck on VTEC+turbo=FAST!! Well whatever you decide to get, I wish you good luck on your project.

The integra has great aftermarket support for sure. I had no idea the possibilities for upgrades where so big when I bought my integra, I just happened to get lucky with the obd 1 ecu since all I could afford was a 95 gsr. If you want to turbo an integra, an early G3 gsr, or ls would be a great car to have!

94 to 95 GSR would best suit your needs.

For boosting I would recommend an Integra LS. Longer gears, lower compression, and better cams for boosting.

What is a common swap motor for the Integra?
Most people dont swap motors for Integras. If you have an LS and you want raw power, then you can do an LS/VTEC swap, or just swap out for a B18C1 or B18C5.

Thanks for all the great info !! .

Way more than enough to get me started. Guess I am looking for a pre 1997 LS unless there is an OBDI to OBDII converter. BTW, doesn't hondata make an ODBII to OBDI adapter plug? Anyone know if it works? How close are they to supporting OBDII? There are a lot of OBDII's out there.

I would prefer the DOHC B18B1 or B18C5. Would like to use adjustable cam gears at some point. Also,,, what about cam for B18C5? Thats the Vtec motor isn't it? Are there aftermarket Vtec cams for this motor that are not re-grinds?

BTW,, is the B18C1 a DOHC? My Haynes says its a SOHC Vtec.
