Default Cam install ?.. head not on block

Hey Ive been working on trying to get my LS/V coupe running. Im almost done getting the correct clearances on the bottom end, and I am currently struggling with the head. I am trying to re-install the gsr cams. Ive been doing research and have found tid-bits of useful info, but Im still not sure. and I know that having the head put together properly is crucial.
This is where Im at:
I have the head off the block and am ready to install cams, caps and all those goodies. I am doing this by the HELMS and it states to install cams with the keyways facing up. The only way the cams sit in is slightly angled keyways pointing towards each other.
Questions:
1) Can I even install cams properly without the head on the block?
2) Do I just proceed with where they sit and tighten down?
3) What DO I DO?!?!?

Please help me get my coupe back on the skreets!

1) NO
2) install cams at TDC with the right tightening sequence of the caps and rails.
3) keep reading the helms

So when I do strap it up, how will that affect the way my cams will sit inside the journals? Will I sill be experiencing the same thing? This is my first rebuild <--- I know I have lots to learn

you put them in and turn them by hand or with a wrench to where they need to be.

once the caps are torqued, the cams will only turn so far. u can bend valves if u move the cam too far, but there would be mass resistance. just remember to install them with bottom and top end at tdc. might not get the cams dead on tdc when torquing the caps, but u do have some movement with them.
