So I have a small minor leak on my head gasket and I dont feel like dishing out 750bucks on repair and dont feel like doing all tat work myself. So I bought this thing called Block Guard which is supposed to fix leaks in blocks/radiator and also head gaskets. Has anyone ever used this and does it really work good? I wanna give this a shot to save money and since head gasket has just monor leak. Thanks.

I might try it and if it doesnt work then I'll attempt to change my own head gasket. This is temporary since I wanna drop an H in there.

Before all that though, don't you need to.. drain oil, drain coolant, take off intake manifold, take off exhaust manifold/header, remove valve cover, and then remove the head?

I figured this covered it and all that's involved, but I could have been a little more detailed, huh?

I will get a manual and attemp it. You guys gave me confidence and convinced me. I am just worried of re-assembly. Do I also HAVE to change my head studs or can I use the same ones. I dont race engine since its stock motor. Only thing I have is a AEM short ram intake since it was there when I bought it.

I did a search and didnt see anything. Is there a write anywhere with detailed pics on changing head gasket??
It's not a must, but it's a crutial part of the engine, and you might aswell replace them. Aswell, don't get alot of oil inside the thread holes for those bolts. Oil doesn't compress very well and will crack the block if the pressure gets too high. Using a screw driver and dipping it in until no oil comes out is usually what I do, nothing had ever gone wrong.
Get a manual that explains it. It's an easy job, it's just not something you wanna screw up haha.

shop manual.
shop manual.
I got one of those block guards. but that was becuase the guy o bought the car from used a big screwdriver or prybar to get the head off and tooka big chunk out of the cylinder lip/ I hammered in a block guard and put some JB Weld on the chip, slapped on a new head gasket and the car passed emissions today.
I beat the crap out of it to make sure it held. just make sure that when you put the head bolts on, go to 1-2 lbs. below what is required, let the motor warm up, and then retorqe the bolts to the correct specs.

go to honda-hookup.com, download the 88-91 crx/civic manual. under the engine tab there will be a cylinder head removal/instalation tab. all you need to know is there. pics, torque specs and all. and you may be able to leave on the intake mani so you dont have to change the im gasket.

If your not doing the timing belt and water pump it is a much faster job. The only downside is removing the old crappy gasket. Cleaning the top of the block took me forever.
Plus I think you can use a z6 or y8 metal gasket and get a little more compression but dont quote me on that.
