I have a b20 swap in my DA9. I love it. Hauls *** more than the stock b18...plus mated with a b16 tranny, good grief..."I'm Loving It" (Mcdonalds) haha

if you decide to buy a b20, just know that all jdm b20's are marked with a "b". there are no jdm b20z's. however, 99-and up jdm b20's have higher compression and the way you find out is by looking at the year stamped on the head.

looking at your SN, im thinking you're planning a swap on your hatch. My boy did this swap in a EF and traction was a big problem. even for me 1st gear to 2nd to 3rd, sometimes to 4th, my tires will chirp like crazy.

heh, if you want to know more just shoot me a message....

just my .02

ditto, this is a very common problem, but as far as the torque you get from the engine, its a good powerplant

boosting stock usdm b20z 8psi all day no problems yet (nock on wood)
ys1/lsd trans, gt28/71r turbo, aem ems tuned = no traction till 4th gear.

if u put a girdle in a b20 with pistons and rods u can rev it past 9k safely especially a n/a setup.

Im pleased with my low-compression JDM B20. I like the drivability in city traffic, and passing on the highway is great.

It didnt hurt that the motor was $835 shipped from HMO with only 27k miles(according to HMO). And I used my existing tranny.

I rarely take it too 6k RPM; since the power is down low, I keep it down there.

but yeah i love the torque esp since i drive a truck im used to it

stock to stock my frens b18b i burn him everytime too

cams make a bigggggg difference

but yeah to rev past 6500 youll need to get some parts but man on low rpms it picks up great

i kno B20b go for about 500-650 but how much do B20Z usually go far. If i go B20(which i probably will) i will try and find a B20z.

i think one thing that swayed me from the usdm b20 is that the walls are thinner

thats not true... I've had my crvtec since 2001.. daily beaten daily driven.. I've got people to vouch for my battle scars.. anywho.. I'm going on 80K right now with my setup reving at 8K rpms.. Basically, Crvtecs will last for a very long time depending on who builds the motor.. btw. I do at least 80+ miles a day and I've never blown/crack the motor.. the only problems occured with my motor was that I bent two valves due to cheapass Hayame cam gears.. which F'd up my timing belt.. and this past weekend when the crankshaft pulley bolt came off which made my crank pulley come off with the alternator belt.. all is well.. my motor is still fine and I've replaced it recently and I'm driving it again..

that is a good deal from HMO...

remember though, that if you're out in cali that longblock will not pass the visual! i can vouch for it being very fun to drive, but traction will be your main issue in a small *** hatch...
