Folding rear seats??
Hello,
I went to a Honda dealership to check out an '01 prelude. I remember reading Canadian Driver and it said that the rear seats fold down in all models of the generation 5 Preludes. I asked the dealer if the rear seats folded down and he said no, and popped the trunk to double check. I saw some strange thing with a handle to pull towards you inside the trunk, and I asked him what it was for. He said that he didn't know, so I didn't pull it. My question is, do the '01 Preludes (base type) have folding rear seats so I can have more trunk space? Thanks.
EDIT: sorry if somebody created a topic about this in the past. I used the search button for "rear seats" and "folding" but no results came up.

Yes they have folding rear seat.
That strange thing that you saw inside the boot is the release for the seat. It can also be released from inside the cabin by using the key-hole in the center of the parcel tray.

Did you pull the lever that's in there? All 5th Gens have folding seats. The salesman is a ******* dumbass....If I'm not mistaken, most Honda's have folding rear seats
Thank you for the quick responses. Yeah, that salesman was REALLY bad. He never actually asked me if I was 18 ('cause apparently their insurance policy states that you must be 18 to do a test drive), but rather asked when I got my license and how long it has been since I got it. I said that I got it when I was 16, and that was a year ago (so I'm actually 17). So the guy was like, "Sorry but since you're not 18 I can't let you drive it". He let my dad drive the car (I brought him with me), but he didn't even check his license. Lesson learned from this experience: if you're under 18 and go to a dealership, just say you're 18. What're they gonna do if you lie, anyways? Also, after our block-long test drive (literally, it was just four right turns), he immediately said "Let's go work some numbers, I can get you a really good deal on this car". If that wasn't bad enough, when we were about to leave the guy was like, "Can you give good word on me to my manager??" We never actually talked to the manager about the dealer, just talked a little about cars but that was it.
But anyways, thanks again for the responses. I'm definetly thinking about buying a Prelude, and now that I know for sure that the rear seats fold, I know that it's a practical car that I can put my bass in. I think I have all the information necessary to convince my parents that it is a good car (although have they ever run a crash test on the prelude? How safe is it?).

well... considering 2 members of this forum just recently flipped their 5th gen ludes and walked away from it, i'd say it's a pretty safe car... but don't try to flip it when you buy it.
good luck with your new car.

If you think that's bad, I went and test drove a Prelude back in 00-01 somewhere in there when Preludes were still being made, and the salesman let me and a friend of mine just take off in the Prelude. Didn't ask us our names, license, or insurance, so what was I to do, well, I took that thing all the way up to about 120 down the access road, dumbed the clutch a few times, and brought it back with a smile
Lesson learned, never let 18yr olds take off in a nice car without asking questions first
