Default Jdm Headlight / Center Fog light question

I was just curious as to how many people have the h4 socket of their jdm headlights wired so that it's both high beam and low beam and the center as the foglight.

I know that for the most part people just use the outside as the headlights and the center as the foglights.

So if you do, please share your insight and experience. w00t.

Is this what you're talking about? I found this in the prelude pics thread, the member who posted it is sivikvtec.

whats the point of doing this?? do you have the high beams on w/o the low beams on? Why would you want less light if you turned on the high beams??

the point of doing it would be that it's the correct way to do it. an h4 bulb is a dual filament bulb which is capable of being a high or low beam while the center light is an h1, where those or h3 are usually fog light bulbs

yeah to a point. yes thats how those bulbs are used. but not in a jdm light. i wired it with the same harness as the jdm's came (i bought a front clip)

there is the option of wiring it up the way you have it

cool, good to know...

my headlights aren't wired up yet, the moron who i bought the car from like to cut wires instead of doing things the right way, so i have to go back in and rectify his mistakes...

he straight up just twisted the wires around each other and electrical taped them

so does this mean that the high beam is the low beam that becomes a high beam also, and the center light is just the fog light??

how would u wire this?

Why do this?

If you like blinding people with constant high beam then power to you...

there is a reflector in the low beam to aim the lights.... the high beam lens is open so it floods the road for better vision. That's how the lights were designed. The jdm teg probably has a different design.

That's my car in the pic. The yellow lights don't really blind other drivers. Its a real intense light, but only if you are looking directly at the headlight. The beam height is adjustable for both high and low beams, so just aim the highs as low as they will go. To make the headlights work, I wired in a relay into the USDM high and low beams. Doing this made it possible for the H4 bulb to have high and low capabilites. For right now I have the inner H1 bulbs powered by the constant power supply for the headlight corner lights. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS BECAUSE THAT CIRCUIT IS NOT INTENDED TO DRAW THAT MUCH POWER. THIS CAUSED ME TO MELT A ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR ON MY FUSE BOX . I'm wiring them up correctly by running a wire from my fuse box accessory power outlet with its own inline fuse. I have a fog switch from a DA that I will keep hidden in my ash tray to swich them on and off. I have the diagram at home for the relay wiring, I'll post that later.

Ok, here's the diagram. I picked up two of these relays from napa by showing them this diagram. Cut off your headlight harnesses, get some connectors, and solder everything together. Go to a junkyard and cut the headlight harnesses off a EK civic or buy the "three prong" headlight harness at autozone like I did. You cannot use the japanese H4 harness because there isn't any wiring there for the high beam filament of the bulb. If you have questions let me know.

ive done this on my car. i used a Insight Daytime Running Light Modlue i got off ebay and yellow h1's. outsides are high/low h4 and insides are "drl/fog" yellow.

the drl unit actually turns the h1's on 15 seconds after the car is started or the ignition is turned on. they stay on with no lights on, stay on with running lights, stay on with low beams and i actually wired in a relay to turn them off when the highs come on (only cause they wouldnt pass it for inspection unless i did).

i have the complete wiring diagram of how i did mine but everytime i post it through my photobucket, it crushes it way down and you cant make it out. if you want me to email you a copy of it, let me know.

Don't really need to do this if you have USDM fog lights. If i want my lights on during the day I'll just put on my parking lights....

i have mine wired like that. hid h4 byxenon outside and brite yellow h1 driving lights inside wired to use by them self. makes it nice when its fogey out and other drivers can see me better. and for night time back road driving with the brights on and the fogs it makes it real nice to see the road.

so if I wire mine up like this I only need to use the existing usdm headlight wires (the four that run to each headlight) and not run any power wires or crap like that? Also if I do it this way I can turn the center H1 foglight on independently of the outside H4? And lastly the high/low H4 is controlled be the normal headlight switch and it won't be too much power draw to run the H4 on high along with the H1's?
