Default Cup holder prototype..

Well I was working on this for my Rapid Prototyping class. It fits pretty much how I want it to but I goofed on the diameter of the hole that would hold the cup. Its ok cause its just a prototype for now. I am going to change a few things to make it more sturdy when a drink is in there. Let me know what you think.

As of right now I can't get anything in it because I goofed up on the hole size. This design was meant to support the cup on the sides as the bottom of the cup would rest on the console underneath it. This would keep it from moving around side to side. But I have a few more ideas to try out before I have something finalized.

yea i for one am totally AGAINST open drink in the crx, due to the nature of a crx on the road...things dont tend to stay 'tamed' especially liquids......but improvising the ash tray for a cup-holder is really cool, if its secure enough i wouldn't mind picking one up...good work ..

I feel the same way. That is one of the main reasons for coming up with this idea.. It is far from finished and more then likely the next prototype will be very different..

i think it was a good idea and a good attempt to make use of the ash tray slot, as well a good project to make use of the rapid prototype machine while you have it available.

but for anyone trying to replicate this idea, why not just take a normal ash tray and just drill a hole in the STOCK tray??? why bother with making a whole new tray to fit like stock....

anyway, i like my cupholder from a 94+ integra.

Guilty! Si seats work best Although there is a layer of coffee film constantly on the ebrake cover haha. As mentioned above, CRX's just don't hold drinks well no matter what you think of. Lots of side to side forces in turns, and tons of turbulence from the road surface and weight of the car.

I heard some nissan sentra cup holder would work for crxs, I forget what year sentra it was, but I specifically remember these kids talking about the exact same thing on this old crx owners site I used to check its practically dead now it takes like 5 days if you were trying to get a response out of a question. No one even looks at the dam thing hardly and they bad mouth HT like they had me almost afraid to come here for awhile they talked so bad...how can you badmouth this site its literally a freaking gushing fountain of honda information plus if you got a problem you can ask I think what it is, is that they know they will never be half the site HT is and will never see 10 million posts much less 20 that they have to badmouth ya to feel good about themselves lets just say ive been banned from posting there for slamming one of their older members and making him cry to the point where he turned off where he could receive messages and removed my posting priviledges
