I had a 1996 GTi VR6 too, only in red. HKS mushroom style intake, remus exhaust, H&R springs, etc. Very torquey car but the shifts were weakskillz . You should enjoy the ITR a lot more . I know I do.

Welcome aboard. Congrats on your new R; she looks nice & clean.

Your GTI looked nice. The smiles come at different ends of the powerband, but winding out the R gets addictive. You've probably been bitten already.

Check out the FAQ thread stickied at the top of the forum for much useful information covering service to troubleshooting to aftermarket parts.

Is that rebuilt? I see old fire damage in the engine bay.

was the car in an accident or is that just a very dirty area of the engine bay? look at the passenger shock tower.

I'm maybe thinking it's rust from the salt used in Ontario during the winter months.

I could be wrong but I bet that's an anti-rust coating for winter.

Nice car and keep it safe! You just might be in the worst Canadian city to own an R with the others being Surrey and Van.

thanks for the link about the rust check 330R.

type r vs GTI VR6

handling- the type R takes it hands down..

acceleration- the type r would kill it on the 1/4 mile but on the hwy it would be a pretty close race...

braking- i would say it would be a tie both are very good stoping cars

comfort- i would got to give it the GTI very easy to get in and out lots of space and A/C ahahahah

interior- GTI has much better interior then the type R

Gas- GTI gets around 9kms per litre type r gets around 12 per litre

preformance wise type R takes this hands down, for everyday driver i think GTI would be better pick.. i like the type R much more then my GTI both are very good made cars tho
