Default Steering Wheel Shakes

I have an 04 Civic EX 2dr. Does anyone else with this car experience a lot of steering wheel shaking when going about 55-75mph?? I thought I read somewhere that this was a common problem with this vehicle, just wondering if there was a cure out there. Thanks

You could have a problem with your wheels being balanced improperly. I have that problem around 61mph - 63mph, but I deal with it, since these wheels won't be with me for much longer.

check your wheel balance and steering components next time you get an oil change or something.

almost all cars have a small range when they shacke at high speeds.

when that happens to me, it usually means that my front tires are worn out as all hell and when i go to inspect it, theres wires showing, i should probably invest in a camber kit...

normally front vibration felt in the steering wheel is front brake pulsation from rotor warpage. especially front. I would resurface your rotors scuff em up a lil with sandpaper, and sandpaper the old pads a lil to get em flat by putting the sandpaper on a table and rub the pads up. If there is still pulsation try re-balancing your wheels. Hope this helps.

brake pusation will only happen when your using the brakes not crusing at freeway speeds.......

Actually vibration under braking RARELY is the result of warped rotors. Most of cases are due to improperly bedded pads and uneven material transfer from pad to rotor.

Something neat I learned from GRM a while back.

In your case I'd look at getting your tires rotated and balanced. Most tire places will do it for free. Also look for uneven wear between the sides of the car as this can usually tell you if there's an alignment problem.

Finally if you start getting desperate, look at the front LCA bushings as these tend to crack quickly with sticky tires and suspension work. Also look for play in the tie rod ends and the steering rack and steering rack mounting bolts.

Good luck.
