alrite... so NU-b here with a couple questions...
So i've been into cars for a couple years (just basically building and street driving them), and i am now just wanting to get into sanctioned events, both autoX or track days... never done either...
I am a little skeptical to do either tho because i have heavily modified my car and know that i'm gunna be put into a class way to high for my own good...
<EK hatch, full suspension and brake work, motor swap, yadda yadda...>
I guess my question is, how should i go about getting into any of this? am i gunna hate it because of my car? what about driving schools? am i gunna get made fun of at an autox event because i'm a nu-b with all that **** done to my car? haha
i dunno, lots of questions... any advice would be appreciated!
thanks

If you want to go on a "real" race track, get a beater. Once that can not possibly go any faster with you driving it. Then move onto go fast parts.
Until then, don't destroy your nice car.
Ohh yeah, safety gear makes track days waaayyy more fun. like good brakes and properly installed harnesses

Going to an autocross is a cheap and relatively safe way to find out if this stuff is for you. Don't worry about what class you end up in because you won't be competitive right away anyway. Just go to have fun and learn as much as you can. People are usually very friendly and willing to help newbies.
For track days/driving schools, the classes are usually determined by driver experience level, not by the car. While there are definitely benefits to tracking a low-power, disposable car (you'll learn faster in a low-power car because you'll have to), it is in no way a requirement. Just go out with an open mind, listen to and try to follow what the instructors tell you. Remember, you're there to learn and have fun. You aren't racing, and you wouldn't be competitive if you were, so just take it easy and learn as much as you can. Once you have an idea what you want to do in motorsports, then you can start thinking about getting a dedicated track or autocross car.

Don't worry about it. You're going to get your *** kicked anyway (in the beginning); just go to learn and have fun.

Probably. But if you go with an open mind, good attitude and a desire to learn, the regulars will relax and want to help you out. Go with an attitude and you'll get branded stooge of the meet.
PS: Get a AAA card with the 100 mile towing.

YES YES YES!
Autox is a GREAT start...looking back on my track days, I wish I would have done autox sooner for car control lessons.

If you have one. Most autocross clubs, have loaner helmets available.

Azenis will be fine in the beginning. Do a seach for SCCA and/or Autocross in your ares. Goggle-Local is good for that.
