Default H23 Vtec build almost done. inner crankshaft sprocket not lining up HELP

Im putting together my h23VTEC build and I cant seem to get the timing belt on there. My Q's are this:

I. i shouldn't have to stretch the timing belt or pull it up hard to get the belt on should I?

II. im using all of the bottom gears on the crankshaft from my h22. They dont seem to line up. My h23 oil pump (which is an OBDI, my h22 is an OBDII) has a extrusion on it that keeps me from putting the gear from the h22 on (as the h22 gear flares out at the bottom, and hits the pump where the other one wouldnt have done so. what parts are right/wrong?

III. anyone happen to know how many teeth my timing belt should have?

its a manual tensioner.

It looks like ive got #17, and that little ring around the bottom is bumping into the oil pump. Why do i have #17?

Ive got the sprocket from the h23 and it looks like #16 but has less teeth than the one form my h22, which indicates to me i cant use it.

sorry if im confusing anyone, and thanks a TON brandon.

its funny how 17 is in the pic, but I cant get info on it. I dunno how many teeth there are, but you could grind it off or ordera H22 one off ebay or sumthin

yea, dammit its weird.

Ive got a new problem though. My shop accidentally put on this OBDI pump but they said if i got an OBDI dizzy theyd wire it up (i got a new dizzy in the spirit of cooperation and such). Now the bracket and sensors that plug intot he block beneath the oil pump dont hav anywhere to go. will these be taken care of when they wire the new dizzy?

odd Q i know, but i could really use help.

Anything that touches the timing belt should be changed to h22 parts due too the number teeth. Also I've heard that the timing belt is a B***H to put on for an H23vtec

Good luck with your project

thanks for the help guys.

I'm aware that the blocks are the same, the problem really comes down to the oil pump i think. Im going to call today and see what my shop has to say about it. Im a little bt pissed that they put on the wrong oil pump, i was willing to roll with it when they said it wouldnt really affect much, but it sure seems to be.

obd1 and obd2 oil pumps are designed to be run with the matching sprocket. you need to get a new sprocket or a new oil pump.

yeah you need to match your oil pump housing with the appropriate gear. so you said you have your obd1 h23 oil pump on there, get the obd1 h22 gear. or just grind the extra ring of off your obd2 h22 gear

a side note, i hope your also using the h22 water pump, because the h23 and h22 have different belt patterns. so the h22 timing belt will not sit correctly or at all for that matter,
