Default H.I.D. blow up?

So my friend has a WRX an he bought 8000k H.I.D. kit. He had them on for about 6 months and then all of a sudden the bulbs blew.. Im plannin on getting 10000k for my integra and DO NOT want this to happen if im gonna spend the money. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it common for them to go out>?

10K is useless light, stick with something near 4300K for best light output and buy a reputable brand so they don't fail.

you will get the most light output from ~4300k

hgher kelvin rating = more color/less light output

your 10k's will be very blue/purplish but wont be very bright at all over stock

I've seen 10k in person, looks like a black light, it's awful.

you'll regret it, stick with 4300k. Try http://www.xenondepot.com they sell great kits.

but isnt a 4300k like a yellowish color? i would think that a bright blueish purple would light it up better..

No, yellow is like 2-3000K.

4300K is pure white light (close to sunlight) and therefore puts out best visibility.

Think about it, what lights up better, the sun or a blacklight?

Don't get 8-10K they suck.

4300 is the best i wouldn't pass 6k if i were you, the more color the less light,

they kept blowing because either
1. he touched them,
2. moisture got in there,
3. didn't change your fuses

but if you want it to look all purple and pretty might as well juss save a few hundred and buy the purple halogens

if your getting HIDs get 4300 like everyone is recommending you it is pure white maybe light blue tint and light output is best bluer dose not mean its better!

you are dishing out a few hundered bucks might as well make them effective as they can be rather then pretty as they can be

go with 4300-6000 k as it is closest to actual sunlight( why most luxury cars have it)
that car with 8000k prob. blinds the **** out of everyone else on the road

Higher Kelvins (like 10K) doesn't mean brighter light, it's a higher temperature.

Wattage determines the brightness.

Not a great pic, but here's what my Philips 4300k HID kit looks like on my DC2.

As the others have mentioned, I'd stick with something inbetween the 4300-6000k kits. Everything higher just doesnt look good.

i think we are all going off subject now..but basically to answer your question..no its not common for hid kits or bulbs to go out in such a period of time.

i would just recommend getting a quality kit and keeping them away from the elements such as exessive heat, vibration and water exposure.

also be careful when installing the bulbs..they are somewhat gentle and be careful with fingerprints.

hid kits SHOULD last longer than halogen setups. bulbs a lone have a longer lifespan..although ive notice some bulbs start to change color output after some time..just get yourself a quality kit..be careful when installing and you should be good
