Default ls/vtec. which one is better ??

when you build an ls/vtec how exactly do you build it. i know its a dumb question but what i mean, is it possible to build a stronger ls/vtec as in ls block with like a type r head or something. i have seen a gsr block witha b16 head and it ran great. so im trying to find the next bad *** frankenstein engine????
