Brake warping...
I've had my car for a year now and the other day on the highway I had to brake hard and the steering shook noticibly. I was going about 140km/h (yea, I was speeding, it happens). I've never taken a car into a dealership before for work, but I was wondering; Would discs be covered under warranty? I know "wear and tear" items are not. Like Pads and clutch, but what about Discs?

warping your disks will happen, i have no idea if they are covered, but if they aren't, it's not a hard job to do it your self. if you do replace them yourself, just get a set of brembo blanks with good pads.

Can the rotors be machined? If they have to be replaced, what is the best/cheap solution, while keeping the stock setup (pads and calipers). How much am I looking at spending? I want something that is at least as good as stock, and I figure, if I'm gonna change, might as well be better...

I just bought 2 new rotors and a set of pads from AutoZone this weekend, about $70 total. I installed the pads but I can't change the rotors until I get access to a drill and drill out the rotor screws.

what kind of rotors?
My friend is a mechanic and he would probably help me do it. I guess I would just have to jack the car up and take off the wheels...any special tools needed?

you could try taking it to the dealer to see if they'll cover it.. but I dont think they will.. its worth a try though.. for replacements.. I got Brembo blanks/solid rotors and Hawk HPS pads (like $65).. their only about $30/ea.. I got mine from http://www.collettimotorsports.com its $28/ea plu $10 shipping.. another place is http://www.performancemotorcars.com its like $32/ea but then shipping is free for orders over $50.. so it comes out less.. but then again you don't live in the US right?.. so I dont know how that would work...
as for tools its pretty easy.. jack, jack stands, socket set/ratchet, impact screwdriver to take out the brake rotor screws, C-clamp or brake spreader if your changing the pads too, bungee cord or something to hang the caliper on so it doesnt hang on/stretch the brake line, high temp brake grease for the caliper bolts, etc.., brake quiet/molykote for the back of the pads, torque wrench to torque the torque plate/caliper and pad mount and caliper back on.... its pretty easy.. you shoud be done in 30-45 mins...

Nope, not dificult at all, however... If you're not use to doing brakes, it's really best to have someone there who has done it before. Brakes are not a good thing to learn on. They are rather important.
One very important note, after you do the brake job, pump up the brakes before you try to drive. When you back out of the drive way, make sure you can stop. I've seen a guy just take off right after he did brakes. He ramped up over the curb across the street... Pump them up!!!

GSRaCeRbOI and reefer_bob thanks for your info. I really appriciate it. I'm pretty sure my mechanic friend has all of the tools and the expereice (he just started though). I'll probably have to buy some of the grease you mentioned...
Thanks guys,
