Default headunit and speaker questions - 1994 civic coupe

Hey guys, new guy here. I bought a 94 civic coupe earlier this week. I needed a stylish gas saver since my 1991 Trans Am guzzles it!

Before this honda I had a 1994 4 door civic. One difference between my old Honda, and my new one is the AR sound system. The stereo in the old one sucked, and I hoped this one would be better. But, it looks like I was wrong!

I'm looking at putting a headunit and speakers in my new 2 door. I've heard good things about Pioneer (good tuner) and Alpine decks, so I'm leaning towards those two.

Also, how much of a sound improvement can I get by replacing the stock speakers?
Am I correct in assuming that I have a 6 speaker system? (2 speakers in the front doors, 2 tweeters in the front doors, 2 speakers in the rear)

My budget is $500.

Thanks!
Bill

Uh if you dont see and pods in your door panel you dont have tweeters if its a coupe i think you have 4 speakers ><

You can gain alot from a set of components

for the deck i definatly suggest alpine i have the CDA-9855 and love it

I do have the tweeter pods in my front door. They have little AR badges on 'em. Anyone know what size speakers/tweeters I have?

How's the tuner in the Alpine?

imo alpine is the best for HU's! the tuning is... very... idunno how to say it.. but its very.... ..... ....... yah its good.... lol... i like infinity kappa's for speakers and a good sub and amp... oooh yah the word was versatile

edit:: didnt see the 500 dollar limit...
well u can get a good alpine cda-7894 it wont come wit the flashy stuff like color change but its mp3 player... and its about 160-200 on ebay...

speakers are prolly atleast 70 for each pair... well.. i bought some 2 ways inifinity kapps 6x9's for only 40 buccs... but kenwood and pioneers do the job too

u prolly wont need tweeters... the kappas on mine did great... i buy everything off ebay....

well all i've had is dvd tv set ups from alpine and pioneer and they have great equalizer capability but the wattage output on them tend to be less than a regular radio. If i had to get a regular head unit it would be one of the two or even a kenwood sorry about rambling on, and as far as components i like jl a little pricey but way worth it.
