Well I can try to help you out on the E-test. All honda's fail because of mostly three things.
1. Cat
2. O2 sensor
3. Carbon build-up (On pistons and EGR passageways)
And the fourth would be EGR problem either the vac soleniod or EGR valve(If you have one)
And make sure the timing is correct. And your tune-up is good.(Plugs, wires, cap, and rotor.

Doesn't it suck! It seems that they want us to give up our cars because they think it a POS. Give them the finger when you are done and passed.

Mind if I ask you for your limits? I want to compare CA limits to yours.

I agree with the smog man. Check out the O2 sensor first... its pretty easy to do, and cheap to replace. Then check out your cat.. easy to check out, more expensive to replace. In this case I'd just go ahead and replace the whole exhaust system because its probably gonna be in horrible condition as well (unless this is going to be a beater car or something, then don't bother unless it's REALLY bad).

Change out the oil and fuel filters if they haven't been for awhile. Do an oil change and top up with good stuff. Replace the spark plugs and wires if they're old.

ewll apparently the B16a was just swapped in like a year or so ago.. so i figured it wouldnt be SOO bad.. but i guess not.. i went out today to buy some new plugs, cap and rotor, and some oil and an oil filter and also picked up some "gauranteed to pass" stuff LOL this is what honda recommended. I figured they would just pass me anyway atleast on the safety and just tlel me to make sure I get it fixed.. since i used to work there.. LOL GUESS NOT!

as far as whoever said that O2 sensors are cheap to replace?? where did u get urs! lol in my 97 civic an O2 sensor costs almost 300 bucks! unless they are cheaper for OBD-0 cars

Not all the time you can have a slow one or a bias one without tossing a code.
Just not driven to failure limits!

Come on give me your numbers on the emissions part.

who cares

b16a1 has 2 o2 sensors, make sure that 1. they are wired correctly and 2. then worry about replacing them

also, make sure that honda is testing your car under "hot rod" because it has a non stock motor. hotrod has FAR less requirements then 88-91 a.6l Honda Civic/CRX. if they tested it under normal then i would tell them to do it again for free since they did it wrong.

here's a pic of the OEM B16a1 header w/ both o2 sensors.

who cares? wtf? you serious? we need that **** to see his exact numbers to pinpoint his problem(s). you cant always assume its the O2 sensor causing the problem.

thats good enough for me. besides, i wasnt telling him it was the o2 sensors causing the problem. just indicating that if he were to replace them he would need 2 to be certain.

could be his cat, could be the wrong map sensor, could be the wrong ecu, could be a number of things. too many variables without the smog sheet.

I bet you it just needs a tune up. I've seen horrible failures to do to a bad tune. There are easier way to make it pass...leaning it out...I think we used to advance to the timing a bit...or was it retarding it...it's over 1 1/2 year since I got anything e-tested so I'm a little confused as to what we did.

Oh we also put stock header and cat on. If you have aftermarket header and high flow cat, replace with original.

You can do that. But little does he know that cops in Ontario are pulling Blitz. They basically target 'supped up cars'. The rice and the nice looking honda mostly. They harass you large about all your mods. That's why I'm keeping stock exhaust. Stock everything. I get followed by cops and they don't even car cause I have a spray painted civic with alot of shittyness about it. Yet I can rock out alot of other cars with it.

And a part of the Blitz is road side e-testing...they also check for cats, resonators and mufflers. They also check for charcoal canisters and working O2 sensors. You are missing anything, or fail the road side etest, you lose your valid sticker on your license, and must usually re-safety and re-etest the car. After that you need to pay the fines, and then you need to buy a new sticker for your license. A fake etest fine is 125000$ last time I checked.
