Racerwholesale.com is on back order for their backing plates. I found the same eyebolt, nut, and washer kit they sell at a local race supply shop here locally. The local shop is claiming that the washer included in the kits is sufficient as a backing plate.
I would estimate that the washer is 2" in diameter. The backing plate from racerwholesale.com is 4" x 4". Obviously the bigger the better, but is the 4x4 plate overkill? Will the 2" washer suffice as a backing plate for the subbelt & lap belt mounting points (in the center exhaust tunnel)?

Is that a SCCA requirement? I don't see that requirement in the NASA CCR. My FIA Schroth harnesses came with backing plate sthat are about 2.5 x 4
Blueteg, I think the big round washer was meant to be used on the outside. There's no need for the washer to be that big if it's placed inside, so I would think it's safe enough to use only the washer. Personally, I used both a 4x4 and the washer on the outside. I didn't like how thin the 4x4 is and I was afraid the locking nut would just rip through the thin plate. I only used the Schroth backing plate for my sub-belt since the anchor bolts are pretty close together.
