Turbo Sohc 300whp
I am building my turbo kit now and i am pretty set on everything except the turbo. So maybe someone can help me out by EXPERIENCE. I have been going over numbers and setups for a couple weeks and i am just not sure. The goal is 300whp more if possible so i will say 300-350 on pump gas. of course i want the best spool that is possible to reach that goal. I will say i want this setup to reach 400whp on race gas in the future with a better flowing head. So here are the two i have narrowed it down to: Garrett t3t4 50 trim .48 ar or 57trim .48ar and here is the rest of the setup:
SillySohc Ramhorn
Tial 38mm Wastegate (black)
Tial 50mm bov (black)
Custom 3"downpipe with cutout
2.5" IC piping
Precision 1000cc injectors (yeah overkill but they were cheap)
JRC 6" Intercooler
Aeromotive FPR
walbro fuel pump
greddy profec b spec II EBC for now
Engine (Complete):
d16z6 75.5mm stock sleeves
wiseco 9:1 cr pistons (little lower with the y8 head)
eagle rods
arp headstuds
complete rebuild
Stock y8 head with hondata type IM gasket
gonna try the OBX lsd see if i can salvage traction
i probably forgot some stuff but please all comments good or bad are welcome

i have the 57 trim with .63 exhaust housing and love it
edit: those .48 housings are gunna kill power that high just so you know the .63 isnt gunna slow spool much

on a stock motor if you want it to last a while I woudl not recommend trying to for 400. 350 shoudl be the max you attempt on a stock block civic. if you sleeve the motor, then by all means have fun. B motors can take more boosting and abuse than the D can so jsut be carefull.
you shoudl be fine on 300-350 on that setup, make srie the shop that does the machining work does the boring/honing perfectly if they screw it up, your screwed.
make sure you get the bearings all perfect specs. per honda helms manual for that motor.

the engine is built and is running very well i have seen alot of 400whp setups on stock d16 sleeves so i think its a matter of tuning just like everything.
so is everyone saying go 63 turbine? anyone want to give a roundabout number on what they get full spool by?

He's going with Wiseco pistons and Eagle rods....how is that a stock block?

I think he meant stock sleeves. I hope so at least, since I've never heard of a stock block d-series do 300whp.
I didn't think the .48 ar turbine was capable of that high of numbers even with the 57 trim. I could be wrong though.
I would definately go with the .63, don't worry about spool. You will need the lag for the traction

BoostedED9 made 302whp on a completely stock block Z6. That's the most I've ever heard of.
Also I know Platinum and Howard@ARFab have both made 400+whp with an SC50 .48A/R.

i have a 57 trim t3/t04e .63 a/r on my 78mm d16z6 and the 57 trimfits me fine, in 4th gear i hit 15psi by 4700rpm and when i am running more psi its just incredible, i love the 57 trim i think its a great turbo for a street/strip car

Honestly, I would go with the 50-trim .48 a/r IMO. Platinum00 is making over 400whp on a Precision SC50, just like the one I've got. And I"m going to run my SC50 on a stock GSR motor to 8200rpm.
Go get a new one for $525-550 shipped and be done with it. Happy boosting

i say go with with the .57 trim...
if you're afraid the manifold will slow the spool, why don't you make smaller ic pipes? like a 2.25 instead.

hey platinum so you run the 50 trim 48ar? im just lookin at other setups and not really seeing it really going to 300 on pump...most ppl are pushing a little over 15psi on the 63ar and getting right at 300 ....that being said it was my first choice i just always have second thoughts about everything
one other thing...this will be in the future but i plan to run methanol injection later
i think i am gonna go with the ramhorn now i really wanted it for looks and top end power but im just all nervous that the turbo wont spool well
i dont want to run smaller IC piping i think that would do the same as running the shorter manifold it will hurt the amount getting to the turbo making the top end a little lower (speculation) i could be wrong is he the only one that thinks this might be a good option?....i guess that would be a simple cheap test.i might just do that

That is a complete rumor about the stock sleeves. Its all in the tune and the engine management. Yes I would go with an upgraded valve train but still, stock sleeve d's can hold their own. I wouldn't sleeve the motor until you crack one. Evans tuning said it best.
"It took 30 lbs of boost to make 460 whp on a stock sleeved D-Series. I guess the rumor that stock sleeved D-Series blocks not being able to take high horsepower is false."

So this is what ive come up with based on you guys' opinions i think i will be happy with this:
Garrett T3/T4 50 trim .48ar
SillySohc Ramhorn
Tial 38mm Wastegate
knockoff tial bov
Custom 3"downpipe with cutout
2.5" IC piping
Precision 1000cc injectors
JRC 6" Intercooler
AEM FPR
walbro fuel pump
greddy profec b spec II EBC

Get the .48, it will make for a nice street car.
Delslo93's .63 on his 57 trim, takes a while to get moving. I think the .48 would work much better on his car, and your setup is pretty similar.

i knew it was only a matter of time before you chimed in kerr
im pretty set on the 50 trim 48ar. im tempted to go for the 57 trim because i have found a few slightly used real cheap.
