Disabling unlock switch with a relay. a few ?'s
I'm in the process of installing an alarm on my 93 civic ex(power locks). While I'm at it, I am going to install a relay in the door to disable my unlock switch when the ignition is off. Ive found the ignition controlled 12volt circuit in the window switch loom, and here's where I have a few questions, for the more knowledgeable. Ive read of this being done, where the power for the relay is tapped from the unlock wire of the switch(its green w/ red trace in my car) and the ignition controlled wire in the window switch loom. Is there any reason why I cant just wire up power to the relay from the the ignition controlled window circuit, instead of the wiring setup mentioned at the bottom of this thread http://forums.clubsi.com/showf...age=0
looking at the relay diagram in that same thread - I would run the ignition controlled circuit wires to 85 and 86, and have the unlock wire connected to 30 and 87(not 87a of course).
now onto my next question- If this works, and the relay will cut the unlock wire connection when the ignition is off, where do I tie into the unlock wire with my alarm? Between the switch and relay, or between the relay and the control box in the door(that the unlock wire runs into) I'm betting between the control box and relay, but wanted to get some confirmation. Thanks for any help.

Sorry if any of this is redundant or irrelevant, but it's easier for me to start from scratch.
Cut your unlock wire. You now have a dash side, and a door side.
30 to the dash side of the unlock wire
87 to the door side of the unlock wire
86 to an accessory 12V (shows 12v when the key is on). Window circuit is fine.
85 to ground.
Run your alarm's - unlock wire to 87
Have someone confirm that last part because I'm tired and a customer gave me a 12 pack of Corona to help me get some sleep. Hook it up and test it before you put it back together, or take an inline fuse holder, put a 10A fuse in it, wrap one side around where you plan to make the connection, and briefly tap the other side to ground. Reality tests are how I avoid unneccessary thinking.
