Default OT question for any Canucks

This is SUPER OT, but you Canuck R-dudes are the only ones I'd trust with this. I happened to have an opportunity to try a motion-sickness medication called Gravol (available only outside the US, read: Canadia) and it worked marvelously for me. I've had problems with other varieties making me tired, so I gave this a shot and lo and behold, it was a winner. This stuff is not a narcotic or illegal in any way. The only reason it's not available here in the US is that it's not FDA approved. I've done my research, and am fine with that. So the question is, for a fee can anyone pick some up and send it to me? This should be cheap, off-the-shelf medication, most likely available anywhere. Given that, the fee won't be TOO great, but help would be much appreciated. I'd cover shipping costs of course.

I am using this only on-track, as I puke my guts out being an instructor otherwise. If this is deemed inappropriate, delete away mods. Otherwise, PM me or reply here. Thanks all!

Lapping day + motion sickness = WHAT A BURN!!!!

I'm surprised y'all don't have Gravol down there. It's fairly commonplace up here. If you need some I'd be more than happy to send you some packages.

Gravol = Dramamine = Dimenhydrinate

same as Oh Henry = Mr Goodbar = chocolate bar with nuts

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dramamine

Dimenhydrinate is available in both the US and Canada - just under different trade names

You are wasting your time and money getting dimenhydrinate from Canada

Well, for whatever reason, when I tried Dramamine, I got knocked out. I did this on several occasions, under several different circumstances, and they all had the same effect. When I tried Gravol, I had no tiredness whatsoever, and that was with a higher dose (50mg as opposed to 25mg for Dramamine). I have no idea what's different (though I did find the same information as you, which left me befuddled about why they would act differently on me), but I know for sure Dramamine won't cut it. But thanks for looking out, BPR!

I would try a lower dose of Dramanine then - like 1/2 a tab

Gravol makes me sleepy too.

Be aware that you should avoid taking allergy/anti-histamines with Dramamine because they have a synergistic effect

were you taking any other OTC meds at the time?

Tried that, same deal

I'm allergic only to soy, so I'm not ever taking anti-histamines. And no, no other OTC stuff at the time.

there is controlled release versions of Gravol that you can't get in Dramamine I have found out.

is that the one you were using? if so - then I might have to eat my hat

It is the sustained release form. Out of curiousity, I'm aware that there ARE different versions of many drugs as far as rate of release goes (I know Oxycodone has immediate release, sustained release, apparently normal release, etc.). How does that differ as far as the dose of drug goes over time? For example, if there is a 15mg IR dose, as opposed to a 15mg CR dose, are you getting, say 1mg an hour for 15 hours or something for the CR vs 15mg an hour for the IR, or what? You seem to know a bit about pharmacology, so I thought it couldn't hurt to ask

total dose will be the same

dose/hr will be less

the tablet is constructed differently so it dissolves slower in your gut

it's like taking small pieces of the normal tablets every 20 minutes or so - that's why you're not getting knocked out by the sustained release.

Gotcha, BPR, thanks for the explanation. And actually, some kind of "motion sickness medication" thread wouldn't be a bad idea in the RR/Autox forum...
