Default Low oil pressure.....Won't engage Vtec...????? Please help!!!!!

Hey guys, I just got my bottom end rebuilt on my B17A1. The only thing changed was pistons, main bearings, and the oil pump was swithced to a type R (p73) oil pump.
I put about 20 miles on the motor before the first time I rolled into vtec and it engaged but i didn't hold it on. I tired it again and the motor detonatied only once.

Now since then I have low oil pressure and can only engage vtec when its cold and getting worse.

I tried using a thicker oil and didn't help at all.

Any suggestions.........I want to say oil pump but its brand new.....and one of the only other things is if the main bearings were set on the loose side and robbing all my oil pressure.

My oil pressure dosn't go above 35psi on w.o.t. and about 25psi part throttle.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

- Is the type r oil pump compatible with the B17A?

The engine is on my 1990 CRX si.

Also there are no engine codes, lights, no notification of problems electroniclly.

I have Hondata S200 and during tuning it even switches to the vtec map, but mechanically vtec won't engauge.......

my friend bottom out in his b18a1 hatch and crushed his oil pan he replaced the pan but didn't check the clearance of the oil pick up. if its to high or to low the oil pressure will be off and that can damage the motor.

who rebuilt it? should be under a warranty, low oil pressure could be from a clogged oil pickup to bad bearings.
