Default C2di/Twin-Fire alternate?

This is by far the most annoying ignition box I've ever had to deal with.

C2di unit (box #1), about 5 miles...... caught on fire. I called AEM for a replacement. In the meantime, CompressionFed offered me his C2di unit (box #2) from his race car, but shutdowns my motor every time it gets warm, which is around 30-40 miles of driving. Will function again after it cools down. I even hooked up a 12v fan to it. No luck. So, when I got my replacement unit from AEM, I was glad to see that they sent me a Twin-Fire.... this is box #3 now. About 200 miles later, this Twin-Fire is now blowing the inline power fuse. I slapped a new fuse about 3 times but keeps on blowing it.

I cant deal with these units anymore. Three brand new ignition amp with the same results. My set-up is a fully built B18c motor/GT35R/AEM EMS 1010/COP on HondaCBR coils. I'd like to know if there are any other alternate COP controllers out there that is compatible with AEM EMS. If not, then I will redo this whole set-up and stick with MSD. Thank you for your time........

M&W Pro 14, it'll work with your setup and you won't have to deal with the bullshit anymore. It's a high quality 4 channel ignition box. Runs about $899.

Thanks tony. I'll look into that. Otherwise, I'll just get an MSD Pro-Billet dist set-up. This is a street car anyway.

I just spoke to Henry at AEM. I now have an RMA number. I was told that this is the first one that went bad. Either way, I'm done with this. I'm going back to MSD.

I thought I installed it wrong the first time. I wish it was that simple because I really like the way COP looks. That was not the case tho. Why would it run for over 200 miles then suddenly not work..... I'm just fed up with now.

there are little things that can be done to make sure it last..dont mount it in the engine bay (heat) mount it down with nuts and bolts (seen people zip tie them in) and run the power/ground right to the battery)..

also on a honda 4 cyl (1,3,4,2 firing order) wire it like this..

The inline fuse holder that comes with the Twin-Fire is a POS. I had problems with mine and finally figured out the POS spring-loaded Radio Shack cheapo fuse holder that came with it was intermittently losing connectivity, especially if I drove aggressively, and it caused a couple of different problems. I got rid of the fuse holder and wired it straight to the battery, it's been fine for a few thousand miles now. This is on my daily-driver with a Hall-Effect/COP setup that ate so many C2DI's that I switched to a DIS-4 so I could reliably get to work. I still have the DIS-4 in the trunk just in case, but it's been a few thousand miles now and the Twin-Fire seems to be working well. If you want to put a fuse on it, then get a good inline automotive blade-type fuse holder and wire it in.

HYBRID, I'm almost positive that I did mine like that, except of course using the schematic for a 1010 box. However, I will print this out and recheck again. Thanks a lot for the info man!

Mine is installed in the car by the passenger side with a fan on it wired to switched 12V.

I also removed that crappy fuse holder and replaced it with a different one.... the blade type. Also has a weather proof cover.

AEM is awesome. How dare you say their **** breaks.

Henry at AEM, extension 303 will be forever burned into my brain. He says every part I've bought from them was the first one of it's kind to break. I thought I was his only one. What a *****.

Seems like no company out there could make a reliable multichannel CDI ignition box at a competitive price tag. I was on the same boat about a year ago. Two C2DI's (old model), and two MSD DIS-4's and no luck. The only choice was to either step up to the big boys (M&W/Autronic/Motec), or run another type of setup. Although M&W/Autronic is nice, with myself being in Canada, I would hate to deal with M&W across the border for warranty/replacement issues. AEM and MSD on the other hand, have dealers/vendors that could take care of the problems locally.

So I personally chose the MSD Pro Billet distributor because my OEM dizzy is crapping out anyway (over 250000km). As for the MSD dizzy, so far so good and definitely runs as smooth as my old COP setup but without the hassles. But again, we'll see how long the MSD dizzy and the components last

Ha ha ha.... Dont get me wrong tho. AEM does have one of the best Tech service. Henry has called me a few times. They also overnight shipped my Twin-Fire..

Tony the Tiger, I sent you an IM about this. Please link me to your recent thread about the MSD Pro-billet distributor. Thanks

I was getting ready to de-wire the system from the COP conversion. So I went ahead and re-checked the wiring. To further ensure myself, I dropped in my back-up C2di. As I expected, it did not blow the inline fuse. The motor fired up. This proved the the Twin-Fire did **** on me.

Here's the link to Tony's thread. Very informative and even had some great talk about Hall-Effect systems:

Around noon, Scott, the AEM Twin-Fire design engineer called me today. I was asked to test out some proto-type changes on the AEM Twin-Fire at the company's expense.... of course he had to verify what type of set-up I had.... I said that I dont mind, as long as I have a point of contact in case anything happens. He will be giving me his contact info so I can directly talk to him. I guess I'll take another shot at this Twin-Fire. I will still keep my MSD dist set-up tho....

AEM might have problems but they do take care of their customers

I personally went with M&W Pro 10

They do. I definitely agree...... Scott was very understanding of my frustration. The first thing he did was offer me the proto-type he then proceeded to hear out my issues. I hope this new one fixes all the issues. I dont know what to expect yet.....

...... and M&W stuff is baller status....
