Default What kind of signal does the fuel gauge receive?

Like title says, what kind of signal does the fuel gauge receive? I mean, obviously it has to be electrical, but between what range?

the sender in the tank has a variable resistor that changes with the level of the float.

Yea I know that but I was wondering between what ranges it actually goes, but never mind because I have it all figured out.
