Default Shifter question , with pic.

In my infinite wisdom, I took the old one off last week and didn't pay attention to how it was assembled. I put it back together, and it feels ok but I do have a question.

The piece circled, does it sit on top as shown, or does it actually sit through the bottom of the shift arm ball? The picture, imo, makes it look like it sits on top of the ball, but mine is sitting underneth and it shifts smooth. I want to make its correct, the car is up on stands so I cant drive it around.

Thanks.

Its on the bottom. I remember taking it off on my old gsr. It was rusty and it didn't help having a 3 inch downpipe in the way.
