my sis got pulled over sunday night and given a fix it ticket for her loud exhaust wich i can admit is loud but the silencer can fix that and it also said modified emiisions . it wasnt specific but all her engine mods are carb legal and it will pass smog even with the "loud exhasut". she said the dick i mean cop was giving her **** about the fuel pressure gauge and how its illegal. come on its at the stock fuel pressure setting im stumped on that one. anywho the cop didnt say anything but on the back of the ticket it has a sticker that says u cant drive the car until it has passed an inspection by a state referee . he didnt say anything about and it just says the get it fixed by august 1st.any of you have experice with that same sticker.oh yeah he had no reason to pull her over other then just to be a dick she didnt do anything illegal .

 

Why in the hell would you have a fuel pressure gauge if you are running stock pressure? What kind of engine is she running? What exactly does she have done to that thing? And no, the silencer won't do ****. A true, emissions legal exhaust won't have a resonator. She now has to take the car to the state ref, which means pretty much leave back to stock depending on the engine she has in it.

She can fight it in court if she wants. How did the cop measure the decibel on the exhaust did he have a deciber meter with him?? She can take it to state referee and if she passes everything there it will be ok. just pay the 10 or 15 dollar filing fee

On a serious note... The fuel pressure gauge is 100% legal, cop was being a dick. He doesn't know **** about cars so he's just writing a ticket hoping you won't pass REF inspection and he'll get a healthy 400 dollar ticket.

First, is the exhaust street legal? Does the exhaust HAVE an emissions tag with it? If it doesn't, the REF might mind. Does your sister's car have a catalytic converter? Is the header/intake carb legal? Any other mods?

That's the only stuff you have to worry about, if all that is fine, call the nearest local college with an automotive mechanic program and tell them you need to speak to Automotive about a referee inspection, and you'll be fine.

If the mods are as minimal as you said, she'll check out okay, and you'll only have to pay a 7$ paperwork fee at the court house, which is bullshit I know, but it's better than 400$.

When all that is okay, we get back to what your sister looks like and if she's single, okay?

A cop has all the right to give you a ticket for exhaust just by judging if it's louder than normal. Plus, she was driving a civic and cops do know what stock civics sound like

well she did do something illegal, her exhaust was too loud, and the police officer does not need a decibal meter to determine if its too loud, thats what the ticket is for. now he sent her to the state ref because he has reason to believe there are further modifications to the vehicle, thats what a referee is for.

if her car is 100% then she has absolutly nothing to worry about then right, but if she does have something wrong then the cop did his job, well he did his job anyways by pulling over a loud exhaust

 

Personally i would file a complaint, more info on this would be nice. Stock motor ? only mod a ebay exhaust ?

 

post the ticket. something isn't adding up. what are the mods to the car? complete list please...including the LED washer fluid lights.

 

if she got popped for a loud exhaust then most likely its one of the ricer exhaust thats hella loud. just call the # on the back and set up an appointment and get the car inspected. and if her smog is due soon you can use that inspection to get the car registered. its gonna cost you $38.50 for the inspection at the state referee. just make sure everything is stock and timing is set and you have enough fluids in the car or else you are gonna fail

 

what city did she get pulled over in? some cops are required to hand out a certain amount of tickets and maybe that guy was just trying to hand out his fare share of ****. if everything under your sister's hood is good then she'll be fine.

but what you should or I would do is..
put on a stock exhaust, take it to the referee (or whoever checks it in cali, I forgot)
and then once you're set to go, show it to the police station, sign you out
you can put the exhaust again, and if she gets pulled over again
she can bust out the passing ticket and you could be free to go the next time around.
BUT!!! some cops are really dicks in Cali and they'll give you another ticket anyway.

like you stated... if you have the carb numbers for the intake, supercharger, header and catback...

then take it to the REF, and get your sticker. pass the BAR, and never have to worry about cops givin u ish anymore..

btw, where in the bay was she pulled over at? proly stopped just cause it was a holiday weekend

 

Well, you have to make an appointment with the BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) to have the car inspected. Sounds like you'll have to have them test both the emissions devices and the exhaust sound level. You call up either 800 number and give them the citation numbers on the ticket and they'll make you an appointment to have your car inspected.

The emissions check cost a little $$, but the exhaust sound check is free.

If the ticket says you have to go to a BAR site for an inspection, going to any police station to have the ticket signed off does not work.

damn that sux man. what part of cali? i know in the bay area they can be real dicks. i used to live there. and i swear i seen like 20 cops w/ people pulled over on a daily basis.

 

im also glad we dont have to do that here in tn. ive never heard of having to go to a special place for things like that. makes me glad most cops in memphis dont care about the exhaust, just the music levels.

 

All of my best friends are cops here in california 6 to be exact....1 in Whittier, 2 in Brea/Placentia area, 3 in Long Beach. I talk to them all the time about them being biased about fixed up cars. 3 of them have modified cars themselves...and those three only seem to pick on those poser cars. 2 of them are female officers and they have no preference for picking on modded cars, however if you give them attitude, you better believe they will ticket you for whatever they can. They can ticket you for something as small as a parking permit hanging from your review mirror.

Also, If you have modified exhaust, find a manufacturers paper stating the exhaust meets all emisions regulations and you are home free. I've gotten out of 4 exhaust citations here in Cali in Newport Beach, Fullerton, Norwalk and Anahiem all because I had this paper from my manufacturer that said it was legal to all the specified codes....this paper even held up in court numerous times. You can get one from Tanabe.

also, my friends DO NOT have quoatas they have to meet for tickets, none of them do. This is a myth and anyone who tells you they do is lying and doesn't know what they are talking about.

just because it meets emissions requirements doesnt mean it meets the sound requirements in every state
