Your going to a nice place in Spain. I was in Valencia for 6 months and it isn't great. The food was horrible and the people weren't too friendly! I guess they don't believe in chicken over there, eveytime I asked for a chicken breast, they gave me duck!

wow, we're here now and it's awesome!
we went to nyc for a bit - got directions from BlueR and then got on a plane to Zurich, Switzerland.
Now we're here in Barcelona and went down to the beach for a bit to walk around - ate some tapas and trying to decide what to do for the evening.....

That's because chicken is a crappy meal compared to what they have over there.
No one does a ham/cheese sandwich like the Spaniards. Bocadillos FTW, as they say.

Spain rules. The food, the culture, the nightlife, the women, etc.
I lived just oustide Madrid (Torrejon) for 2 years as a kid, and have visited semi-regularly ever since. My Mom loves the place so much, she moved there in 2001 when she retired.
Barcelona is defintely a good place to visit as a bachelor.
But you and your girl will have the time of your lives there. The only thing that sucks is the weak Dollar to Euro conversion. We get so screwed, I remember visiting Spain in the late 90's and getting 1 million Peseta's (ten grand) from roughly $7K US dollars.

an old boss of mine went to spain and brought back some iberian ham. i believe serrano and iberian are very similar. in any case, this was the most exquisite ham i've ever eaten. i don't recall the $/pound...but imagine a price that would make toro sashimi sound cheap.

If it was serrano, I can see why you feel that way. Quite possibly the best tasting ham I've ever had.
