Bumper crazyness???!!!
I have an 89 civic hatch and the bumper is black plastic. I see cars all over town with painted bumpers that look like they are the same year as mine. But the plastic on mine is full of bumps and stuff and it feels kind of rough. How do they paint it and make it look so smooth. They don't look like what I think are 90-91 bumpers, they look like an 88-89 bumper that has been smoothed out and painted to match the car or something and looked like the surface and the newer bumpers. And example of this would be the red civic hatch with the green wheels that I see on honda-tech all the time.
HOW DO YOU DO THIS? Are they aftermarket bumpers that are smooth but look stock?
I like the look of my stock 89 bumper better than the 90 or 91s and so I wanna figure out how to make it match my car in color, but get rid of the bumper texture that it has.
thanks a ton!!!

Please help, I hate the black bumpers and would be really interested in painting them to match the car, but not if they are all rough and bumpy.
I like the look of my bumper better, so I would rather not swap a newer bumper onto it.

You lost me right there.. ?

Is that better, if still confused forget that piece, that is just there in case someone recommends putting a later model bumper on it.

They are most likely not painted by the person but painted from the factory, thus why they look so good. Civic Si's had painted bumpers stock from the factory. There's your answer!

if you want your bumper to be smooth, then go to walmart and get something called "Sandable Filler Primer" its a thick primer that fills in the little bumps and what not, my buddy used it on the itnerior of his truck, turned out AWESOME
